RE: Tux-shaped computer runs Linux

The monitor port is in a plug in add on board. There is a knockout
for it in the case. My question is, what type of power supply does it
use? It is not the standard ATX.

Install FC4 on CompaqDL580 with SmartArray
by Giuseppe Giannuzzi
Hi all.
I'm trying to install FC4 on a CompaqDL580 with SmartArray.
Three disks are configured in a SmartArray RAID5.
Well, installation says my logic hard drive isn't present and to add one
manually.
Note that I can complete an FC3 installation without error.
How could I add the hdd?
If the problem is the kernel, how can I prepare an installation CD with
latest kernel?
Thanks for any help.

Scouring the web, I have performed the modprobe pcpskr and gotten it
to appear in a lsmod after a reboot. I have made sure it is not muted
and the volume is up (among many other combinations :-) )
The documentation seems to indicate that the internal speaker is a
mono sound channel, so I don't know if it is supposed to use pcspkr or
not.
I don't know what the "mono" volume control does (I can't get any effect
from it on my PCs). If you want the PC speaker/beeper to sound off
through the sound card, it'll need to be plugged into it somehow. Some
sound cards have a header to connect the PC speaker to it, and it's then
controlled by a "speaker" volume control.
I'm not so sure this is a good idea, though. Most Linux things don't
play with the speaker, if they produce a sound they play an audio file
through the sound system. The BIOS uses the beeper for important things
like overheat or fan-stuck warnings, you really do want such alerts to
be heard, not silenced by your audio mixer settings.

OT: Calendar Overlays for Wallpapers
by Thomas Paine
I've spent all morning looking for something that I can overlay a
calendar on a wallpaper and I can't seem to find anything at all what
I want.
Basically I would like to overlay a calendar to a wallpaper and then
flatten them together and save it so it's just a jpeg. I would think
this is possible with the gimp, but I can't seem to find anything and
I tried several search string in google but nothing brings back what I
want. Everything is giving me a desktop program to run, and nothing ot
overlay a background.
Anyone else have something like this working?
Thanks.

Ad-hoc or Managed WiFi mode?
by Timothy Murphy
I'm running my desktop WiFi card in Ad-hoc mode,
but for some curious reason my laptop only works well
if set to Managed mode.
It works sporadically if set to Ad-hoc mode.
I'm puzzled by this;
it doesn't really matter, as it seems to work perfectly in this way.
But I'd be interested to know why.
I should say that both the cards are Orinoco Gold (Classic),
the one in the desktop being in a PCI-to-PCMCIA adaptor.
I'm running FC-4.

Yum better than RPM?

I also get this message when trying to update ImageMagick:

ImageMagick seems to require a backward version... are we back to RPM's
dependency nightmares? How can I fix this?
