SWAT + FC4 = Not working
by Ed Babin
Hitting a big mystery here. I've configured samba properly but I would like
to run swat. The /etc/xinetd.d/swat file contains:
service swat
{
disable = no
port = 901
socket_type = stream
wait = no
only_from = 127.0.0.1
user = root
server = /usr/sbin/swat
log_on_failure += USERID
}
When I try to start the service my message log contains:
xinetd[1695]: bind failed (Address already in use (errno = 98)). service =
swat
xinetd[1695]: Service swat failed to start and is deactivated.
Any clues, I just can't get the service to start.
thanks,

Pointers into audio files (howto?)
by Jonathan Ryshpan
I have an audio recording and a transcription of an interview, which I
would like to post to the web. Each line (or short section) of the
transcript should link to the appropriate place in the audio, so that
clicking on "[audio]" next to a line saying (say):
[audio] JR: When did you first start to use Linux?
XX: In about 1997.
would start the audio playing in the appropriate place.
For portability and size, the best format for the audio file would seem
to be mp3, but other formats, say ogg, might be acceptable. Clearly,
this could be done with a large (**very large**) number of mp3 files,
linked and accessed via pointers from the text. But...
Is there a better way? I.e. does mp3 or ogg support anything like
anchors, so that the text file could reference these "anchors" in the
audio file?
Thanks - jon

lprng in FC5
by Boris Glawe
Hi,
in which repository do I find the packages for lprng in FC5? They are
obviously not included in the standard (FC5 test 3) distro!?
Unfortunately we still need lprng, because our printing infrastucture is
very dependent on lprng.

Getting a folder with FTP
by Chris Norman
Hi people,
How can I get a folder via FTp, preserving the sub dirs and files within it?
I am using ftp from the command line, no GUIs or anything are an option.
Cheers,

I just stumbled across an interesting way of getting a folder / whole
tree. I used Nautilus. Opened one window on my target and then
used "open server" in another window to access the source. It opened
via ftp and I just dragged the folder to the target window and it copied
all the files. Simple and elegant.

Setting up a tftp-server in fedora?
by Jonathan Carpenter
I am wanting to setup a tftp-server in fedora 4, so that I can send my
configs and firmware from my cisco equitment to it. I have installed the
tftp-server using yum can found the config file in /etc/xinetd.d/tftp, I
change it from disable = yes to disable = no. but I am not sure how to start
things from xinetd. I chown +x tftp and ran ./tftp and it seemed to have
changed the status in chkconfig to on. But I am still a bit lost. I am
making this to hard?
Thanks,

I was never able to get this working with grub and had to give up on
raid for the boot partition - that was about 6 months ago. Has
there been progress on this or did I miss the "correct" way to
configure boot raid with grub?

OpenVPN on FC4 - client and server cannot ping each other
by Khemara Lyn
Dear All,
First, let me apologize as it may not be a right topic to ask here. I hope,
some of you have come across and solved the same problem already.
I've been having problem with OpenVPN server on my FC4 box and client on my
XP box. I could connect from the client to the server but could not ping.
My connection diagram looks like this:
Client1 <---> Mikrotik (with NAT) <---> FC4 (OpenVPN Server) <---> CISCO
7206 <---> Client2
|
Client3
If I tried to connect from Client3 (without passing through the Router or
Mikrotik NAT), it is fine; they can ping each other. However, when I try to
connect from Client1 (through Mikrotik 2.9 with NAT) or Client2 (from
outside through my border Router with IOS 12.0), they cannot ping each
other.
For Client1, I'm quite sure, it is the problem of Mikrotik firewall/NAT
rules. For Client2, it may be the Router access-list policy. I'm desperate
in how to resolve this after searching through the Web for a while, esp. the
OpenVPN web site. I hope, some of you have had the same experience and would
help me out.
Here is my server config (on FC4):

Hostap vs Access Point
by Timothy Murphy
Is a WiFi card working with hostap
just as good as a kosher Access Point?
If so, can anyone recommend a card
which works with hostap in Fedora-4?
As far as I can see, my Orinoco Gold PCMCIA card
(in a PCI-to-PCMCIA adaptor)
does not work with hostap.
Basically, I want to allow my grand-daughter's Sony PSP
to communicate with the world,
and that seems to require an Access Point.

Netatalk on Fedora 4
by Raymond Norton
I need to compile a new core 4 kernel with appletalk. I found this link
which describes the process:
http://www.colug.net/pipermail/colug432/2005-October/001635.html
In /boot I find initrd-2.6.15-1.1831_FC4.img
In order to recompile the kernel the doc indicates I need the src rpm. I
have found a couple list , but am not sure which one to install.
Could use a pointer, or advice on how to set up my kernel to use
appletalk in the simplest way.
