system-config-cluster error
by Fabrizio Lippolis
I am configuring a cluster of 2 HP machines and I just installed Fedora
Core 4 on both machines with the proper services to run a cluster and
share resources. I managed to share a disk array as a single partition
with both machine by the Global File System.
To further configure the cluster I installed the system-config-cluster
RPM package as suggested by the documentation which anyway is not part
of the Fedora Core 4 CDs. I found it on rpmfind and installed with an
rpm -i command. I can start the application and make changes but if I
try to save them I get the following trace.
[root@AICLSRV01 cluster]# Traceback (most recent call last):

Anybody can help me to make it work? Or perhaps should I get a different
package? The one I downloaded is
system-config-cluster-1.0.24-1.0.noarch.rpm. Thanks in advance.

RE: want to build automated install cds
by Jasper, Chris
I tried doing a linux ks=ks.cfg at the boot command line and I got a
message that states:
Error opening kickstart file
(null): Bad address
If I hit ALT+F3, I see the following (last 2 lines):
*load module set done
*getting kickstart file
I have tried the following:
linux ks=ks.cfg
linux ks=/ks.cfg
linux ks=/root/ks.cfg
linux ks=/tmp/ks.cfg
linux ks=/sys/ks.cfg
linux ks=/cdrom/ks.cfg
and I get the same error message.
So, what is the proper syntax if my ks.cfg file lives in the root of my
boot cd?
thanks,
cj

How are you telling Anaconda where to find the kickstart file? You need
to specify it on the boot commandline, and I don't see that you updated
the isolinux configuration.
You can test what to enter with your existing CD:
linux ks=ks.cfg
and the variations thereon. The file can be in the initrd file, on the
CD outside the initrd (inside your virtual floppy or outside, I think),
on a floppy, hard disk (including, presumably, USB), and then there are
network options.

want to build automated install cds
by Jasper, Chris
Hello,
I want to be able to "automate" a fc4 install but without pxe and
kickstart. If I understand correctly, I should be able to make the boot
cd with my ks.cfg at the root level of the cd and when I boot off the cd
it should just "go" (asking for the rest of the cds as it progresses).
My first attempt at creating the bootdisk with the ks.cfg did not work.
Here is what I did:
1. put the fc4 disk 1 in my linux box
2. cp -r <path-to-cd>/isolinux/ <path-to-workspace>
3. cd <path-to-workspace>
4. chmod u+w isolinux/*
5. cp ks.cfg to <path-to-workspace>/isolinux/
6. sudo mkisofs -o file.iso -b isolinux.bin boot.cat -no-emul-boot
-boot-load-size 4 -boot-info-table -R -J -v -T isolinux/
7. burn the iso to a cd
8. boot my target computer from that boot cd
The target computer boots off the cd but does not seem to read the
ks.cfg file as it asks me all the regular install questions instead of
getting the answers from the ks.cfg file.
Is this the correct procedure?
thanks for your help.

then sync them?
Thanks for advices

USB drive as bootable install media?
by Jonathan Horne
I could have sworn I read somewhere a while back, that the boot.iso or other
such install mechanism could be inserted somehow onto a USB thumb drive, and
then used to kick off an install.
I have a USB hard drive that I have a copy of the install sources on, as
well as as a usb thumb drive, and I wish I could use one or both to perform
an install (as opposed to the tried and true cdrom boot method). I would
like to be able to just attach one or both of these devices and perform an
install or upgrade on a server that has no cdrom drive.
I say "one or both" because, in my mind I see the thumb drive holding my
boot mechanism, and the diverting over to the USB hard drive for install
sources... but if the boot mechanism could be put right onto the USB hard
drive and eliminate the thumb drive, well then that's the obvious better
scenario. So, maybe using the hard drive as an alternative to the FC4 DVD?
Can anyone shed any light on this?
Thanks,
jonathan

RE: Setting up a tftp-server in fedora?
by Ralph.Grothe@itdz-berlin.de
After you have enabled tftpd I would think it sufficient to send
the xientd a SIGHUP
e.g.
# pkill -1 -P 1 -x xinetd
If you run a RedHat based distro you could alternatively
# service xientd restart
Check your syslog if xinetd has reinitialized
$ grep xientd /var/log/messages | tail
You could also check if xinetd has opened a listening socket for
tftp (according to my services port 69/tcp)
# lsof -i tcp:tftp
or
$ netstat -tlnp|awk '$4~/:69$/'

Subject: Setting up a tftp-server in fedora?
I am wanting to setup a tftp-server in fedora 4, so that I can
send my configs and firmware from my cisco equitment to it. I
have installed the tftp-server using yum can found the config
file in /etc/xinetd.d/tftp, I change it from disable = yes to
disable = no. but I am not sure how to start things from xinetd.
I chown +x tftp and ran ./tftp and it seemed to have changed the
status in chkconfig to on. But I am still a bit lost. I am making
this to hard?
Thanks,
