FC4 - Linux partition primary of logical?
by Hoffmann
Hello:
I am starting a partition on my new HD. It will be a
Windows-FC4 dual boot.
Should the swap and Fedora partitions be primary,
logical or a logical/primary combination?
Thanks!
Hoffmann

Re: USB Problem irq status -71 received
by Christopher Stone
Thanks for the reply, I also added a bunch of services. Once I
started getting those errors, I went to system-config-services and
unchecked every service that I did not really need. Rebooted and the
problem was gone.
Thanks for your interest,
-Chris

New Kernel Image
by Ernest
New Kernel image 2.6.15-1.1830_FC4
is causing problems with gdm.
After boot:
the kernel is running, but gdm has crashed at the point where a user
login screen should appear.
All that appears is a blue background speckled with white dots. It might
be that gdm has not crashed, but the boot process has left something in
an incompatible state.
It is possible to login to this machine, from another desktop, using
ssh. Once logged onto the fedora system and issuing the command
"gdm-restart", the gdm user login screen appears on the fedora system
console.
What has changed between 2.6.15-1.1830_FC4
and 2.6.14-1.1656.FC4?
Where do I start?
What information is needed?
System is an older Gateway PIII, 384MB RAM, ATI Radeon graphics card in
the AGP slot.
X.org detects and configures this video card properly. The earlier
kernel worked fine, until the system was booted with kernel 2.6.15-1.
Now kernel 2.6.14-1 exhibits the same problem.

yum: No module named rpm
by Innocent Evil
Hi all,
I was trying to upgrade fc4 from fc3 through yum
this is what I did:
1. I downloaded fedora-release package from fedora site
2. rpm -Uvh fedora-release-4-2.noarch.rpm
3. yum update
And I rebooted my pc
I tried 'yum update' again,
I noticed something dependency or obselete message kernel-utils
I removed all kernel*-fc3 packages and kernel-utils too
I installed hardlink-fc4
and then after problem began
whenevr I run yum or 'yum update', I get:
======================
There was a problem importing one of the Python modules
required to run yum. The error leading to this problem was:
No module named rpm
Please install a package which provides this module, or
verify that the module is installed correctly.
It's possible that the above module doesn't match the
current version of Python, which is:
2.4.1 (#1, May 16 2005, 15:19:29)
[GCC 4.0.0 20050512 (Red Hat 4.0.0-5)]
If you cannot solve this problem yourself, please go to
the yum faq at:

Please help me to fix this issue,

USB Problem irq status -71 received
by Christopher Stone
I've just recently noticed my system log filling up with these errors:
Feb 3 18:44:17 localhost kernel: drivers/usb/input/hid-core.c: input
irq status -71 received
They just keep coming in forever and ever and are repeated googel
times in my message log. Working on the console is out of the
question because the messages keep flooding in.
I just recently installed a ViewSonic LCD 2030b LCD display (which I
cant get to work in 1600x1200 mode, but thats another story). Could
this in any way be causing it?
Regards,
Chris

RE: New Kernel Image
by Ernest
Thanks to Kam Leo and Robert Locke.
Installing the update-testing version of module-init-tools didn't
help me. But I discovered that using the system-config-display tool,
and setting the display to something higher than 1024x768 (thousands of
colors) did fix (work around) the problem.
Since the fedora system is never powered off, and seldom rebooted, I'll
wait for the stable updates to trickle down through, and let yum handle
it.
(Unless the developers need some details from here.)

Yum disaster
by ArtW
I attempted a yum update and yum had problems with the current metadata
file, primary.xml.gz. yum tried at least 50 alternate mirrors and got
file lengths from 32kB to 438 kB but reported ¨metadata file does not
match checksum¨ on every one.

A question about procmailrc
by Hongwei Li
Hi,
I have a question about .procmailrc. Recently, our users received a lot of
junk emails that have the subject like:
Aaa Bbbb Ccc/Xxxx Yyy/Zzzz Dddd/Eeee is out of the office.
I want to set a line in procmailrc to put those emails in folder Trash. I
tried it as:
:0:
* ^Subject:.*.is.out.of.the.office*
$MAILDIR/Trash
But, it does not work -- the mail still does to inbox. I think the problem is
the part "Aaa Bbbb Ccc/Xxxx Yyy/Zzzz Dddd/Eeee", especially the slash /
How to change the code to do the job?
Thanks!

FC4 evolution 2.23 Multiple email account issue
by Sean Bruno
I have two email accounts configured inside of evolution, 1 POP and 1
IMAP.
It seems that evolution is trying to use the 1st email account to send
email for the 2nd.
I have installed the latest updates-testing version and it still
manifests this issue. I can't see anything like this in bugzilla at
this time, can someone else verify this or at least see if it happens to
them?
