How to recover X-Server when messed up with xgl
by Gayal
hey,
I was yuming and rpm -ivh/-uvh FC5 with xgl and things didn't go as
expected. now that the X-server is not starting and throws the message
X-Server is not configured properly.
Is there any rollback procedure in Linux, or how do i overcome this
problem without reinstalling FC5 again.
wut does xorg, x11 and X-Server mean? is this based on VESA drives?
what is fglrx? what if i have configured my x-server with fglrx having
a ATI X700 card? can i still changed it to the standard VESA drives.
Can i setup xgl on a Live CD. is this possible?

Creating Xen guests in FC6
by Karl Stevens
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hi All,
I'm trying to set up Xen using FC6 as dom0, and am having zero success
getting any guest OS to run.
I've tried using both file and physical devices as root, but no matter
what I try, the vm always crashes with the following message:
VFS: Cannot open root device "sda1" or unknown-block(0,0)
Please append a correct "root=" boot option
Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on
unknown-block(0,0)
(I've tried both hda1 and sda1 as root, neither one works.)
The xen config I'm using is as follows:
kernel = "/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.18-1.2798.fc6xen"
memory = 256
name = "test"
vif = [ '' ]
disk = ['file:/xen/test.img,sda1,w','file:/xen/test.swap,sda2,w']
root = "/dev/sda1 ro"
The file /xen/test.img exists, is not mounted by dom0, and contains a
linux system (verified via mount -o loop, and umounted before I try to
run xm create.)
According to the Xen documentation, I believe this should work.
Is there a fc6-specific initrd that I need?
Thanks,
Karl

If it's of any help, this is from my FC5 installation, though I've not
specially configured its sendmail away from the defaults:

fc kernels vs standard?
by Mike Wright
Hi all,
I was trying to apply the ipset patch to the kernel shipped with fc4 and
it didn't take. The patch README advised that it may not apply cleanly
to distro specific kernels. I'd really like to be able to use the
extensions to netfilter.
Could somebody point out (or point me to) the differences between the
stock kernels from kernel.org and those generated for fedora, and why?
Been running RH in production since 5.2. Hate to have to change
platforms because the fc kernel has diverged so far from the standard.
Thanks for any help,
Mike Wright

FC6 centrino Pentium M support cpuspeed?
by Jorge Manta Bulhoes
Good work everyone for the GREATE job FC6 is!!
Given the (well deserved) credits I have a big problem in my laptop.
I've got a asus S5N with a Pentium M 1.6 cpu, and the problem is that I
can't get the cpuspeed package to work.
when I restart the daemon I get:
cat: /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_driver: No such file
or directory
Does anyone have the same problem? Does anyone have a solution? Also
tried cpufreq without any lunk.
Thank you again for the great job.

FC5 is driving me crazy.]
by Aaron Konstam
I id not see this message come to me so I ma sending it again. Sorry if
somepeople got it twice.
I have a machine that works under FCx [x = 2-5] but now goes crazy under
FC6. These are the highlights.
1. Xen kernel was installed bu default. With it running the GUI boot
stopped (did not show any failures) then went back into GUI mode. This
never happened to me before.
I switched to the basic kernel and this behavior stopped. How ever under
both kernels shutdown does not work. I get all the right messages up to
an including System halted but the power remains on. Again this never
happened before.
2. Previously I had sound. Now no sound card is detected. I thought
something might have happened to the card itself so I opened the machine
and found the sound card is part of the mother board. Again I don't mind lying
to say I hear the sound but no sound card is found so I don't get as chance to lie.
3. People are complaining about failure of the CUPS interface. Mine
works and I defined a printer but printing to that printer does not work
neither does browsing of printers of the print server on the LAN.
I have been using Linux foe more than a decade and never saw a
distribution act like this. Any thoughts would be welcome. Under current
circumstances FC6 seems unusable. I realize others have not reported the
same problems but my machine has not changed but the distribution has.
