Problem mounting some nfs-devices on FC6
by Thomas Widhalm
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hi,
I still have a problem with my new FC6 box. I mount some nfs shares from
Solaris 10 and RHEL 2.1 boxes. All Solaris 10 shares work fine, but RHEL
2.1 times out.
I used to run FC5 before I installed FC6 and I could mount them all, so
it won't be a permission problem. (Same IP, same hostname, etc.)
Is there any suggestion, what I could do?
Kind regards,
Thomas

Gnome Workspace-switcher in FC6
by Joachim Backes
Hi,
in FC5 it was possible to move an application window to another GNOME desktop workspace by
dragging/dropping it from from one section to another one in the WorkspaceSwitcher. This fails in
FC6. Did somebody make similar experiences?
Regards

mounting ext3 drive with R/W permission???
by Deepak
Hi,
I had FC5 installed in first drive (hda). I have recently added the
new 20GB (hdb) and created a one whole partition and formatted to ext3
using GParted.
my problem is
----------------------
I can't mount the drive with the permission to write by other users.
option1:
=========
my entry in fstab: (similar to mount my vfat partions)
/dev/hdb1 /mnt/install ext3
rw,defaults,umask=0000 0 0
===========
gives me bad supreblock error and doesn't mount at boot time
option2:
=========
my entry in fstab: (similar to root main drive is mounted)
/dev/hdb1 /mnt/install ext3 defaults 1 1
=========
mounts the drive but what I can see inside the drive is "lost+found"
folder which is locked and I can't do anything with it (as normal
user).
how do i mount this drive with write permission to other users.
HISTORY:
===========
this drive used to be "vfat" before, which was mounted and shared
through samba. But I had problem writing to vfat partions from network
(from windows machine to linux), usually some files get corrupted or
hangs in the middle of writing (Samba problem???). As alternative I
have to write the files first to my home folder (ext3) and then from
there I have to transfer to vfat drives.
so instead to doing these tedious things I just want to simply convert
my drive to ext3 and share it as before so that I can write properly
from network (windows mahcines) (which I think will work for me).

cURL for FC4
by Michelle Gates
All,
I'm stuck with FC4 for one of my machines (legacy reasons) but I need to
update cURL.
Yum doesn't find any updates past 7.13.1-5.fc4 even though I've found a link
to openpkg.org (from curl.haxx.se) for 7.15.0. Problem is that I can't d/l
the rpm because I can't get to openpkg!
Does anyone have any other ideas of what I could use? where I could find a
compatible rpm? How I could force yum to find the newer version? (cURL is
now up to v. 7.16 - but not for FC4 as far as I can tell)
Any help gratefully appreciated!!
-michelle.

Installation freezes at point for FC6 install - Searching for Fedora Core Installations
by Yalusa Jongihlati
I have tested the DVD iso I downloaded. The SHA1SUM and testing it when
booting from the disk show the iso as being a valid Fedora Core 6 DVD.
I have tried to run the install with all of the following options at the
prompt:
<Enter>
linux
linux reiserfs selinux=0
inux reiserfs selinux=0 ide=nodma
linux reiserfs selinux=0 acpi=off
linux reiserfs selinux=0 text
linux selinux=0
linux rescue (you will see below why I did this one)
No matter which of the above options I use, the installer will freeze 10-15
after the "Searching for Fedora Core installations" dialog box appears.
I currently have FC5 (amongst other distros) installed on this system. So I
thought to myself what would happen if I tried to install FC5. I went with:
linux reiserfs selinux=0
At the "Searching for Fedora Core installations" the following error message
pops up:
Error mounting file system on hdd8:
Operation not supported
The same error occurs for sda12 and sda13. Interestingly hdd8, sda12, sda13
and sda14 are part of LVM. What was also of interest is that the error
message did not pop up for sda14. The same happens when I boot of the FC5
DVD and run: linux rescue.

Installing VMware server in FC6
by Jeffrey D. Yuille
Hello,
I have seen several posts on how to successfully install VMware
server in FC6. It aborts during the installation and I can remember
someone stating something about going into such and such folder and
changing a line in a text file. Problem is that I don't remember what
changes I need to make. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
