Re: Group ware solution needed
by James Marcinek
I've been using OpenGroupware. I use Postfix and cyrus for the email solution
(with Spamassassin). It runs PostrgreSQL in the backend.

Bluetooth, Belkin F8T008 dongle, Nokia 6230i
by David Fletcher
I've got the above two devices which both work OK - the Belkin device driver
and the Nokia software suite are both installed on XP, the devices are
paired, and I can talk to the phone via the USB bluetooth dongle.
Should I be able to at least access the MMC in the phone with FC3?
I've never tried using bluetooth before today, but I read somewhere that I
have to start with "service bluetooth start" which says OK
yum install gnome-bluetooth runs, and gives me the bluetooth file sharing and
bluetooth manager under KDE system tools.
At the second attempt, Bluetooth Manager scanned for devices, showed a 48 bit
device number in hex, found the device name I had set in the phone and put up
a phone icon with the correct name. Then it does nothing else. Right click on
the phone icon does nothing, Edit-Properties does nothing.
Is there anything else I can try?
Thanks

Advice Please: DVI / Gigabit / SATA
by Ryan D'Baisse
I have been tempted to install FC4 on a new machine I just built. However,
there are a few items that I am new to and was curious about the success of
Linux with them.
Here's the configuration...
ASUS A7N8XAE Motherboard (embedded everything... USB, FireWire, etc.)
AMD Athlon XP 3000+
1GB PC3200
Now, in one way or another, I am new to the following devices...
ATI Radeon 9550 DVI ... my first DVI card
20" Apple Cinema Display ... never touched an Apple display on any
machine other than Apple
Plextor DVD+/-RW ... never dealt with Plextor nor the "+" versions of
anything
Marvell Yukon 88E8001 PCI Gigabit ... my first Gigabit adapter / no clue
who Marvell is
Linksys Wireless-G PCI Adapter with SpeedBooster ... never tried a PCI
Linksys on Linux
Maxtor 6 Y120M0 SATA Hard Drive ... my first SATA drive in any machine
I guess I am just looking to see how native these items will be to FC4.
And, of course, if I am going to screw myself by installing. Currently, I
am using VMWare to toy with FC4, and it is running quite well, but I am
anxious to get rid of WinXP.
Thanks, in advance, for all who reply with helpful info.

ACPI Doesn't Work
by Ed Warner
Hi,
I have to add "acpi=off" to my command line in order
for FC4 to boot with latest kernel.
Is this a bug?
When I upgraded the kernel, the process re-wrote my
command line with its own. Another bug?
Thanks,

System freeze with ATI card
by Beppe G.
Hi All.
My m/b (Intel G915EV) ships with an integrated video adapter.
I tried to install an external card cause I need more VRAM. So I
installed an ATI Radeon X600pro PCI Express.
Booting the system, FC4 recognize the new adapter but the system freeze
completely (mouse and keyboard) at X login
(either KDE and Gnome) and I have to reboot.
Have you any idea?
Below you can see the xorg.cong automatically configured.
Thanks

Dual boot problems FC4 64bits
by Whemberton
My system is an AMD Athlon 64, Motherboard MSI Platinum, with 3 HD...
firts HD is IDE 80Gb, totally dedicated for FC instalation...
Second and third ones are SATA drives, 120Gb each, NTFS, dedicated for
Windows XP professional.
Actually systems boots first windows, directely through 2nd HD (windows SATA).
I've tried to confire lilo or grub (MBR on 1sr IDE HD) to dual boot
linux or windows... linux boot is running properly, but boot windows
by lilo/grub... no way... when I try to do it, system freezes... the
only way to change between systems is change HD boot priority on bios
(nothing practical... isn't??)...
At time, I'm installing fedora 4 64bits.... There is the option to
configure the ntldr of windows XP to dual boot, but I'd like to
congure grub or lilo...
Anyone has any idea what's going on??
Thanks....

How to compile kernel with GCC 3.2?
by Andrew Parker
I'm having random crashes with FC4, whereas I don't with FC3. I'd
like to compile the FC3 kernel to eliminate/identify the FC4 kernel as
the problem. However, it won't compile with GCC 4. So how do I
compile it with GCC 3.2?

Re: Group ware solution needed
by James Marcinek
Here's what I use and it's really good:
OpenGroupware http://www.opengroupware.org/
other useful resource for OGo http://www.exchangekiller.com
http://www.skyrix.de/en/
To use outlook you would need to pay for this piece go to the skyrix site for
more info...
I actually use Postfix which was not difficult to implement (I moved from
Sendmail to Postfix and there was actually a script that converted my existing
emails...) and use cyrus-imapd. I also have Spamassassin implemented too...
In fact I'm using it right now. Some features:
Contacts
Projects and tasks
Companies
Resources (eg meeting rooms can be made I haven't used this yet)
Scheduling (calendars)
Document uploading/downloading
sync with palm pilot
epoz editor (for editing emails)
You can create groups and assign people to groups, provide authorizations to
groups or users on projects, etc
You can create projects, and put tasks in projects (or not), assign people to
tasks, etc
Although I haven't used this piece, it's supposed to interface with Ximian's
Evolution and I the last I checked they were working on connecting to outlook. I
use mine via the web browser (I implented SSL certs)which gives me secure remote
access anywhere(don't have to open up your POP3 or IMAPD ports). The backend is
PostgreSQL.
You might want to use Whitebox linux or centos which is an open sourced
distribution of Red Hat, but it should not matter.
The documents are uploaded/downloaded via the web browser so you don't have to
worry about SMB shares. Documents are associated with projects...
I transitioned from SquirrelMail using Sendmail to OpenGroupware and haven't
looked back. I've also looked at other Open Source tools in the past but this
seems the best.

8-bit characters -- what in the world are these?
by Benjamin Sher
Dear friends:
Under Composition in Thunderbird, there is the following option:
"For messages that contain 8-bit characters, use quotable printed MIME
encoding".
Having no idea what this is all about, I decided to do a little research
in Google. I found a lot of articles, read several including an article
in Wikipedia, which you would think would explain it in plain English.
Well, it does not. Neither do most of the others I checked. And I don't
think it's fair to expect the user to go through thousands of articles
to get a simple, practical answer.
What, in plain English, is all of this 8-bit character stuff about? And
what are its PRACTICAL implications? What does it mean to us in real
life in our email programs? Why should we check or not check this option?
Would really appreciate an answer.
Thank you.
