request to add usb mass-storage compatible camera to gphoto2 rpm
by Adam Monsen
I'm having trouble getting Fedora to automatically recognize and make
mountable (create proper devices and add to /etc/fstab) my [usb
mass-storage compatible] digital camera. I am assuming the best way to
get this to work properly would be to add it to the database that HAL
searches when identifying devices.
If this _is_ the case, I would like to have my camera added to the
file described below. Please advise on who/what list to contact or if
I should file a bug, or what other action(s) I should take to include
data for this particular camera in the gphoto2 package.
The file I'm proposing a change to is
/usr/share/hal/fdi/information/20thirdparty/10-camera-libgphoto2.fdi ,
(again, it belongs to the gphoto2 rpm). I'm using gphoto2-2.1.5-9.
Here are the relevant lines that need to be added for the Leica
Digilux 1 camera:
<match key="usb.vendor_id" int="0x04da">
<match key="usb.product_id" int="0x2373">
<merge key="info.category" type="string">camera</merge>
<append key="info.capabilities" type="strlist">camera</append>
<merge key="camera.access_method" type="string">libgphoto2</merge>
</match>
</match>
A more detailed explanation of the specific problem I'm encountering
is here: http://www.ratemyimplants.com/home?browse&mode=top_25 . The
manifestation of the problem is that /dev/sda1 is not mountable.
Again, if this is the wrong forum, I apologize... please let me know
where this topic would be more welcome.

Upgrade to FC4 from FC3 without having to re download and then burn cds and recreate partition?
by Sam Johnson
As I said, its on the fedora d/l server, its
http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/test/3.92/i386/os...
for FC4 test 3 and
http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/3/i386/os/images/...
for 3 and will be
http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/4/i386/os/images/...
for when 4 comes out in a couple of days.
Anyone for how to do a Harddrive upgrade install?

How to *update* a Fedora Core 3 component program?
by Bo Berglund
I am new to Linux and Fedora Core 3 (installed yesterday)....
When I tried the web browser I found that it is FireFox 1.0 Preview
Release, so obviously I want to update it.
I can get the 1.0.4 installer all right and I can unzip it too, but
when I launch the install it looks like it is going to install a *new*
instance of the program and this is not what I want. I want a regular
software update, like when I install a new update of a program in
Windows. On that platform it updates the *existing* installation
instead of creating a new.
One of my reasons for this is that the FireFox is available on the
Applications menu in Fedora and I want to get the 1.0.4 launched from
there.
So these are my questions:
1) How can I *update* FireFox?
2) How can I in general uninstall programs in Fedora?
3) Should the installer not ask me to su before continuing?

disabilng selinux warnings
by Aleksandar Milivojevic
I have some NFS mounted file systems (from Solaris box). Whenever
moving files between them (mv shell command), users are getting
"security context not preserved" warning. I know what the warning is
about, and why it is being generated. Is it possible to disable it?
It's kind of confusing for the users (they think file isn't moved, so
they are calling administrators about non-existing problem), and in my
case really pointless. The source and destination are both mounted form
Solaris boxes, so there's really not anything that could have been
preserved...

I want instal the publishers copy) before I use it and cannot boot from the 1st CD (in a set of four). I know I'll need a small file maybe a floppy that I can start the install process from. The message I keep getting is the CD is not being found. Does anyone have a file I could use to get booted into Fedora Core 2.

Re: memory.c - bad pmd - x86_64
by Ivan Adzhubey
Hi,
This is just to confirm I am also having this same memory corruption
problem with dual-Opterons on Tyan K8SPro (2882) and the latest Dave's
patch has not fixed it for me either. I am VERY interested in the fix.
Regards,
Ivan Adzhubey

RE: fedora-list Digest, Vol 15, Issue 272
by Farkas, Roderic R.
Response to message 19. I'll be in LA at a workshop using Fedora Core 3. Demo an install on new equipment (I hope.) I asked about Core 4 and was told to wait. I just wanted to practice installation with what I had. Any idea of a net source for a floppy 1.44 MB boot, then I'll use the set of 4 CDs I have until I can acquire Core 3.

how do I make yum work?
by Michael Hennebry
After yet another fresh install of FC3, I
tried to update with yum:
[hennebry@24-117-46-53 ~]$ su -
Password:
[root@24-117-46-53 ~]# yum update
You have enabled checking of packages via GPG keys. This is a good thing.
However, you do not have any GPG public keys installed. You need to
download
the keys for packages you wish to install and install them.
You can do that by running the command:
rpm --import public.gpg.key
For more information contact your distribution or package provider.
[root@24-117-46-53 ~]# rpm --import public.gpg.key
error: public.gpg.key: import read failed.
[root@24-117-46-53 ~]#
Now what?
If the answer is RTFM, WITFM?
Googling yum FAQ didn't help.

Modemless fax?
by Leaf
Is there a *FREE* method to fax over the internet? I just checked the FC3
repositories and didn't see anything other than standard modem fax programs.
