Yum did not restart bind-chroot.i386 22:9.2.5rc1-1 after update
by Clay P. Campbell
/var/log/yum.log
Feb 26 04:27:20 Updated: bind-chroot.i386 22:9.2.5rc1-1
Bind-chroot did not restart/start after the yum update, therefore named
was down for a few hours Sat. morning. Solution for now, is to no
longer trust nightly yum updates to restart services properly. I don't
see this problem reported yet, so maybe it was a fluke with my system.
Thanks in advance,

Current status of SanDisk USB Drives on FC3
by Marc Schwartz
Hi all,
A search of the Fedora lists and forums would suggest an inconsistent
experience using SanDisk USB 2.0 Cruzer drives under FC3, though most
posts are a month or so old now.
Some of the posts seem to indicate that turning off APIC at boot helps,
while others suggest using a USB 1.x hub has worked.
I am considering the SanDisk 1.0 Gb USB 2.0 drive and am curious as to
the current experience of anyone using this drive on a fully updated
(including udev and kernel) FC3 system.
Should I consider one of the other companies (ie. Lexar, PNY, etc.) as
an alternative?
Thanks for any feedback.

Encrypted LVM2 volumes?
by Gabriel Labelle
Hello,
I would like to encrypt my LVM2 volumes (/ and /home) if possible. They both
stand on my linux soft RAID 0 array.
Is there any guide that can drive me through that process?
It would be really nice to include this feature in the anaconda installer :)
Many thanks for your time and help.

Midi files and Firefox
by Jeff Vian
A recent thread on playing midi files with TiMidity got me to wondering
about a problem I have.
One web site that I love has music that plays with the pages. They play
when I use Windows, but on Linux they don't. I wondered why since I
have most of the music formats playable with XMMS and others.
When I checked this site i found all the music files are midi (.mid)
files.
Now my quest is to find out how to get firefox on Fedora to play
the .mid files that web pages may use.
Does anyone know how to get firefox to play the .mid files?
I also seem to need a little help with installing/configuring TiMidity
to play regular .mid files locally.
I have installed timidity after compiling but when I try to open a .mid
file it fails because the timidity.cfg file is not found. Documentation
is too sparse to let me know the minimum content of this file necessary
to play .mid files.
Can someone share their timidity.cfg file so I can play .mid files?
Thanks

It should work. My advice is to make sure you get USB 2.0 card reader
(and make sure you have USB 2.0 ports on your computer, or buy USB 2.0
PCI card too). USB 1.1 readers are just painfully slow for transferring
images to compter. That was basically the only reason I bought card
reader (my camera supports only USB 1.1, and I got tired of waiting
forever for images to transfer to my PC).
P.S. (and OT)
D70 is very nice camera that has all non-professional photographer needs
and a bit more. In right hands, it can produce professional quality
work. It comes with usable lens in a kit. You will be extremely happy
with it, if you buy it. If I were Nikon fan, it would probably be my
camera of choice (I already have some nice Canon L glass, so D350 would
be my camera of choice in this price segment). But it isn't really
"high-end". It's Nikon's entry level DSLR.

Just a a check, make sure you are doing the link with
gcc rather than ld directly. gcc does some setup work
before calling ld. I could not produce your exact message,
but stuff shows up missing if you try to use ld directly.

How is FC3 ACPI on laptops these days?
by Dexter Ang
Hey folks,
As the last version of Fedora I've used was FC2, I'm wondering about
the current 'condition' of FC3. I'm using a Thinkpad T30. Going
through the archives, I didn't really see any info regarding ACPI
status.
Suspend -to-disk and -to-ram works under Ubuntu Hoary. Of course they
have that Thinkpad power-drain bug on S3. But suspend-to-disk works
really well. So would a fully-updated FC3 work well with ACPI events?
I'm more looking for personal experiences, as searching around shows
that most people just kept using APM, it seems.
Thanks.
