treo picture download
by David
Hi again...
Now that I have my new Treo syncing with FC4 (thanks everyone), I was
wondering if there's a way to download pictures/movies from my Treo to my
Fedora desktop through the USB connection?
Thanks...
David

fail to enable SSL in Fedora :(
by M E Fieu
Hi.. I tried to enable SSL / create a SSL Cert in my Fedora 3
I used the following to create server key
openssl genrsa -des3 4096 >/etc/httpd/conf/ssl.key/server.key
then I make your a self signet cerificte with
openssl req -new -x509 -key /etc/httpd/conf/ssl.key/server.key -out >
/etc/httpd/conf/ssl.crt/server.crt -days 365 -utf8
and then I ensure the following entries is in my ssl.conf
SSLCertificateFile /etc/httpd/conf/ssl.crt/server.crt
SSLCertificateKeyFile /etc/httpd/conf/ssl.key/server.key
and restart my apache, when I surf to https://mywebsite , it state page not found.
http://mywebsite is ok. and when I telnet port 443 to that server, it failed too.
The error_log show
[Wed Dec 28 16:08:58 2005] [notice] LDAP: Built with OpenLDAP LDAP SDK
[Wed Dec 28 16:08:58 2005] [notice] LDAP: SSL support unavailable

[Wed Dec 28 17:59:17 2005] [notice] Digest: generating secret for digest authentication ...
[Wed Dec 28 17:59:17 2005] [notice] Digest: done
I also tried to create a CSR to submit to my windows domain Root CA to sign it
http://windowsCA/certsrv/ Can anyone tell me whether windows domain CA and sign Linux CSR?
I used the following command to create CSR of my Linux box
openssl req -new -key /etc/httpd/conf/ssl.key/server.key -out /etc/httpd/conf/ssl.key/server.csr
and use the server.csr content to http://windowsCA/certsrv/ and the windows CA can sign it and
return as certnew.cer. It rename it as server.crt and move it to my linux box's
/etc/httpd/conf/ssl.crt/server.crt and restart the apache. Not sure whether it is right , but I
also can telnet 443 to my linux box and error message is the same as above

Shorewall for web server?
by Timothy Murphy
I have shorewall working perfectly on my little home LAN,
using the two-interfaces configuration
(from <http://www.shorewall.net/two-interface.htm>).
Now I'd like to allow access to a web-server (httpd)
on my shorewall machine - a desktop computer
connected to the internet through an ADSL modem.
I'm finding this surprisingly difficult;
I've added the two lines
DNAT net loc:192.168.1.1 tcp 80 - 86.43.71.228
DNAT net loc:192.168.1.1 tcp www
to the shorewall rules (and re-started shorewall and httpd)
but when I try to access the web-server from outside
I get many warnings in /var/log/messages of the form
Dec 26 10:13:47 alfred kernel: Shorewall:net2all:DROP:IN=ppp0 OUT=
MAC= SRC=80.231.0.106 DST=86.43.71.228 LEN=48 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00
TTL=117 ID=58867 DF PROTO=TCP SPT=3849 DPT=1433
WINDOW=16384 RES=0x00 SYN URGP=0
I attach the output of iptables -L .
Any advice or suggestions gratefully received;
in particular if anyone is running shorewall in a similar setup
I should be most grateful to see their /etc/shorewall/rules file.

rmdir when directory is not empty
by John Kebbel
I assume OP stands for Original Poster (correct me if I'm wrong).
Anyway, I'm the Original Poster of "rmdir when directory is not empty"
I've gotten an incredible education from asking this question ...
1. man rmdir didn't answer my question because it was a truncated man
page, something I didn't even know existed
2. The full man page for rmdir wouldn't have solved my problem if I had
run it because most people suggested a solution using rm instead of
rmdir. The RTFM advice wouldn't have helped if I was reading the Wrong
FM.
3. RTFM advocates may have forgotten what it's like to be a newbie or a
newbie to some areas. I read man pages a lot, but a lot of what I read
makes no sense to me. That's why I go to discussion boards.
4. I asked my question assuming rmdir was half my solution. The
suggested solutions ...
rm -fR directoryname
and
# Delete the files.
su - -c "find /path/to/dirName -type f -exec rm -f {} \;"
# Delete the directory paths.
su - -c "rmdir -p /path/to/dirName"
showed me I should stick to a more general description of my problem
(How do I delete non-empty directories?)

RE: Firefox for Fedora
by jackc
this approach may not be as elegant as the yum based install,
but ihave been updating FF versions as they come out, keep each in a
peer directory.
its true i have never tried installing a lower rev after up revev'ing,
but i would expect it should work.
one last detail, after the install, open the properties on the
FF launcher and make sure the path is to the new location,
not the last one.

Subject: Firefox for Fedora
I want to install Firefox 1.5 but Yum does not provide it. So I looked
for rpms on the net and found a few for Fedora, but none are in
Hebrew. Before I install from the oficial tarball, I have some
concerns that I would like some input on:
1) If I install from the tarball, yum will no longer update Firefox.
Can I tell yum to maintain it anyway?
2) I did locate and found that most ff files are in
/usr/lib/firefox-1.0.7/ . Can I just unpack the new 1.5 tarball in
/usr/lib/firefox-1.5/ and have them live side by side?
3) I currently can type the command "firefox" in the command line to
start Firefox. Will this change to start 1.5 if I install them side by
side? If not, how do I correct it?
Thank you.
