Actually, my suggestions rely on human nature. My experience has been
that following steps 1 and 2 allows you to be as verbose as you think is
useful in step 3 and the people who have an interest in your problem
will happily wade through whatever else you post. The key is to
succinctly state the problem because, frequently, the solution is not
nearly as complicated as what people dig themselves into. Likewise,
subjects like "Help" sometimes don't even make it past the SPAM filter.
I really think the Fedora folks at Red Hat would do themselves a favor
by having a decent troubleshooting and FAQ page. I see Fedora as a
testbed for technologies that will eventually find their way into RHEL.
The more thoroughly these technologies get tested, especially by naive
users, the better for their successful inclusion into RHEL. Providing
newbies some help with Fedora and Linux will eventually pay off in a
better product in RHEL.
Commenting on another sub-thread in this discussion regarding teletype
speeds, I still have a punch card that I found in one of my old text
books (probably was using it as a bookmark). I guess I should stick it
in my copy of Struble ,"The IBM System/360 and 370 (2nd Edition)".

OT: Asus K8N
by Steven Ringwald
Hi all!
I apologize for this off-topic question. I have a FC4 (x86_64) system
running on an Asus k8n motherboard. So far, everything about this
motherboard is *perfect* for what I am looking for in a small home
server. Thing is, I would rather not put a PCI or AGP video card into
this machine if I don't have to. Does anyone know how to configure this
board to boot completely "headless"..? Ideally, I will be running getty
on the serial port for those rare occasions that I need console access.
Any help would be appreciated, as I have searched google and Asus'
website with little luck so far.
Thanks in advance!

Recommendations for Webcam
by Arthur Pemberton
I would like recommendations from the list for a USB webcam. The new version
of Kopete supposedly supprot webcams, and I would like to give video
conferencing a serious try. I would prefer if the modules could be part of
the Fedora kernel or be found in extras. Please advise.
Thank you.

Google refusing Mozilla click on "next" button
by Mike McCarty
Lately, I've been getting a response from Google when doing
searches. I get a 403 error, with this information...
------------------------------------------------------------------
Google
Error
We're sorry...
... but we can't process your request right now. A computer virus
or spyware application is sending us automated requests, and it appears
that your computer or network has been infected.
We'll restore your access as quickly as possible, so try again
soon. In the meantime, you might want to run a virus checker or spyware
remover to make sure that your computer is free of viruses and other
spurious software.
We apologize for the inconvenience, and hope we'll see you again on
Google.
------------------------------------------------------------------
What's interesting is that I can click on any of the other
"number" links at the bottom, and go to other pages where
I have already been, and I can click on "reload", so I know
I'm not just reading cache, and I see the activity light
on my ADSL modem flash. But if I try to go on to a page
where I haven't been yet, then I get the 403 error.
So, I wonder just what is happening?
Here is an example, which I'm experiencing right now...
Search string:
+schematic +simple +wireless +data +link -ghz -module -optical
-bluetooth +rf -infrared
Currently on page 10.
Can't click on "next" or on page 11, 12, 13 without getting the
error.
The actual URL for the page I can reload is
http://www.google.com/search?q=%2Bschematic+%2Bsimple+%2Bwireless+%2Bdata...
I can also go back to pages 1, 2, and 6 with no problem (didn't
try others).
So I don't think I have an "infection".
I believe I'm running Mozilla 1.7.10, certainly with FC2.
I was using the guidescope proxy, but I reconfigured
Mozilla to use a direct connection, and got the same
symptoms.
Can anyone shed any light? I wasn't even aware Google
had any such "protection" built in.
Mike

Help with a Soundmax onboard sound card
by Kevin Kempter
I just bought a new Lenovo (IBM) Z60M thinkpad laptop (model 2529-EAU)
Fedora Core 3 does not recognize the soundcard at all. Can anyone help me
debug this? Would I have better luck if I moved to FC4 ?

The account was disabled
The smb4k version is:
0.6.1-1-1.1.fc3.rf
