KDE Question
by RoboticGolem
I've recently had a new message start displaying on my system.
Whenever a konqueror window pops up I get the message:
Could not find mime type
application/octet-stream
[OK]
I've found nothing wrong, everything works but its annoying,
particularly with k3b cause it displays that message 3 times and I
have to click ok everytime. =(
Any help would be appreciated,
Matt

linux in my laptop. Ok, i have one... install other distribution,
jejejeje, i hope that it doesn't hurt feelings that someone in this list,

Addendum:Samba access-restrictions
by Roger Grosswiler
Hi,
i have a samba-server running with several users and each of them has its own directory on the server. also, i did
some public-accessible directories. All user-directories work fine, but not the public-accessibles, which restricts
write-access.
Sorry - forgot to tell, that the mistake is in subdirs of /public
65537 drwxrwxr-x 4 samba samba 4096 30. Jul 09:13 public-all
32769 drwxrwxr-x 6 samba samba 4096 30. Jul 09:11 public-group
...while public-all works fine (no wonder with this rights...) public-group is not writeable for my group (samba). Did
i forget something?

Re: samba share/printer problem
by Roger Grosswiler
Hi,
i personally find it very dangerous, leaving ports 135-139 and 445 opened on a server. If you use on the same machine
http for external access (as a webserver) and samba for internal, my purpose is to install a second network interface
for you internal lan und making your machine routing (if you use this machine as your access to internet too..)
like this, you would only need to open port 80 (http) and 443 (https)and could close all ohther ports on the external
interface. but you can leave all ports openend on your internal interface (i suppose this is your homelan) or can have
your ports for samba and ipp-printing (works fine even on windows xp and for printing you don't need samba...) you can
also have your port 631 opened.
Tell me, if i wrote to complicated...

rebuild of db4 fails
by Patrick Nelson
FC2
db4-4.2.52-3.1
I grabbed the src rpm (db4-4.2.52-3.1.src.rpm) and installed it (-ivh)
and then when into the SPEC dir (/usr/src/redhat/SPECS) and ran rpmbuild
-ba db4.spec and it errors with:
---snip---
Processing files: db4-tcl-4.2.52-3.1
error: File not found: /var/tmp/db4-root/usr/lib/libdb_tcl.so
Processing files: db4-debuginfo-4.2.52-3.1
Provides: libdb-4.2.so.debug libdb_cxx-4.2.so.debug libdb_tcl-4.2.so.debug
Requires(rpmlib): rpmlib(CompressedFileNames) <= 3.0.4-1
rpmlib(PayloadFilesHavePrefix) <= 4.0-1
RPM build errors:
File not found: /var/tmp/db4-root/usr/lib/libdb_cxx.so
File not found: /var/tmp/db4-root/usr/lib/libdb_tcl.so
---snip---
I currently have db4-4.2.52-3.1, db4-utils-4.2.52-3.1, and
db4-devel-4.2.52-3.1 installed, but I wanted to add a patch to the spec
to tweak some of the compile options, however, I can't get it to compile
right out of the src. Anyone understand what is failing here.

Sendmail Question
by Mike Kercher
I am acting as the only MX for a number of domains in order to scan their
email for viruses and content and then forward on via mailertable to their
final destination.
The problem I'm having is that spammers have begun using their domain name
for sending spam...thus all of the bounces to non-existent email addresses
comes back through me and then finally to postmaster(a)domain.com as
undeliverable.
How can I drop these non-existent addresses at my server when they are, at
best, randomly generated? There are only 5 valid email addresses at this
domain...I need to drop the rest.
I've tried adding entries to /etc/mail/access like such:
@domain.com REJECT
gooduser(a)domain.com OK
gooduser2(a)domain.com OK
to no avail. domain.com is listed in my /etc/mail/relay-domains and NOT
/etc/mail/local-host-names. Any help would be appreciated.

Newer samba has locked out older box
by Gene Heskett
Greetings;
I have some of the download storage shared between this box and my
firewall box which is still running RH7.3. Let me rephrase that, I
did have some samba shares from this box to the firewall...
Somewhere along the line, the RH7.3 version of samba seems to have
quit talking to this FC2 box, complaining about the login passwords.
I just checked that startup file and the passwords are good.
Now, there are 2 shares on that box shared with this one, using
essentially an identical script except for the actual share names.
It works just fine. Neither of these scripts has been modified since
sometime back in 2001, and until the FC2 install here, had been
working flawlessly.
Whats step one in troubleshooting this?

yum did a silent update of gimp to 2.0?
by Gene Heskett
Greetings;
I had been carefully NOT installing the gimp-2.0, primarily because
gimp-print has not kept pace and I WAS useing use the gimp-1.2 to
print most of my digital photo's. It did a great job of that.
Imagine my surprise when I hit the icon for the gimp today to see
about the quality of an invoice scan I was about to send, and was
greeted by the gimp-2.0 initial installer/configurator!
So now I cannot print from the gimp. Is it going to take another year
to get gimp-print brought up to speed with the new gimp?
Or did I miss an announcement of a gimp-print thats compatible with
gimp-2.0?
This is putting a serious 'hitch in my gitalong'.
