Secure Login Problem
by Alexander Valdez
This problem occurs on FC2 and not FC1.
Problem occurs on all 4 machines installed with FC2.
With mozilla I can get to the home page but when I hit the login link I
get the error www2.xxxxx.com cannot be found error.
With FC2 I can login fine to other secure sites but not this particular
one.
When I use mozilla with Windows 2000 it works fine.
What log files and debug tools can I use to figure this one out.
I'm currently on Linux version 2.6.6-1.435.2.3smp

Ok to build kernel on FC2 for RHL7.3 system?
by Steve Snyder
Is there any reason I couldn't build the current 2.4.x kernel on my FC2
system for use on a RHL 7.3 box? Both are x86 machines.
My understanding is that the kernel is pretty much self-contained. If
true, the very different GLibC libraries between systems shouldn't be a
problem.
My RHL 7.3 machine is very old and slow (just used as a firewall box).
Building on my modern FC2 system would be a lot faster. As a side
benefit, the FC2 system has a more recent compiler, which might result in
better code generation.
So... any reason I couldn't do this?
Thanks.

What does your /etc/secure log say?
There are some scripts around the internet now, where they try to log in via
ssh using "test" and guest with sometimes an admin account

kernel keyring warning
by SternData
After installing the new kernel (2.6.7-1.494.2.2), I found this in my
logwatch:
WARNING: Kernel Errors Present
Unable to load default keyring: error=74...: 1 Time(s)
Googling hasn't found a good explanation for this.

module advansys missing under 2.6.7-1.494.2.2
by Olaf Mueller
Hi,
does anybody know why the module advansys is missing under fedora core
2 and kernel 2.6.7-1.494.2.2? Or is there a replacement for it?
I need the module to connect my scanner.
thanks

Hi, Colin. I appreciate the effort you put into fedoranews. One little
problem with the latest issue: in the USB Multi-card reader section, the
"How-to" link just goes to the kernel compile option. There is no further
link to Dave Ulrick's note.

FC2 and PCTel modem
by Martin Marques
I was about to upgrade my FC1 to FC2 a week ago and I realized that I needed
to get drivers for my PCTel modem (I got it well compiled for the 2.4.x
kernel of FC1).
The problem is that I couldn't find anything about compiling the driver for
kernel 2.6.
So I got the source code of the latest 2.6.x kernel and comiled it on the FC1
I have. Up to here, everything went OK, even the kernel was working great. So
I tried to get the PCTel driver to work, but it gave me a lot of compilation
errors.
Has anybody got a PCTel modem to work on a 2.6 kernel?

Cisco Aironet 350 and FC2
by Steven Kugelmass
Hello. I'm having trouble with my airo card using the later kernel.
I'm on a Dell Insprion 4100. No kernel
options are provided at boot.
kernel-2.6.5-1.358
Works fine. Plug it in, card is recognized, modules load, network
scripts do their thing and
network comes up.
kernel-2.6.6-1.435.2.3
Hangs. Plug it in, /var/log/messages says:
Jul 23 08:57:13 xxx cardmgr[1881]: socket 1: 350 Series Wireless LAN
Adapter
Jul 23 08:57:13 xxx kernel: cs: memory probe 0xa0000000-0xa0ffffff:
clean.
Jul 23 08:57:13 xxx kernel: airo: Probing for PCI adapters
Jul 23 08:57:13 xxx kernel: airo: Finished probing for PCI adapters
Jul 23 08:57:14 xxx kernel: airo: cmd= 111
Jul 23 08:57:14 xxx kernel: airo: status= 7f11
Jul 23 08:57:14 xxx kernel: airo: Rsp0= 2
Jul 23 08:57:14 xxx kernel: airo: Rsp1= 0

Jul 23 08:57:14 xxx kernel: airo: MAC enabled eth1 0:7:e:b9:3a:6f
That's it. At that point, ifconfig hangs, iwconfig hangs. The machine
cannot even be shut down nicely,
and needs a hard power cycle to get back in the game.
Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks. --sdk
