Many thanks for the replies. I was able to build /boot and /boot2 with
two grubs, but unable to get the BIOS to load from the second when the
first was down (other than by manually changing the boot drive).
Real hardware RAID, such as 3ware, costs more than I would like.
I found some interesting cards from HighPoint.
http://www.highpoint-tech.com/USA/sataraid.htm
They come with open-source drivers for linux, and claim that their
BIOS code will do redundant boot. Anyone have any experience with
these "RocketRAID" boards?

Hi Allen,
There may be an incompatibility with the DNS proxy in your router, or
your ISP's DNS server.
Your message states that "dig will give me an answer ..." but your example shows
dig failing: the status is NXDOMAIN, and the IP address does not appear
anywhere in the output. Dig from here shows:

Try dig @69.56.188.210 myfidelity.members.fidelity.com
If that also fails, the trouble is probably with your FC2; you
could use ethereal to see how the query or response is being corrupted.
If it works, try dig @<your.isp's.nameserver> myfidelity.members.fidelity.com
If that succeeds, the problem is probably in your router; specifying
explicit nameservers in FC2 should be a workaround.
If it fails, your ISP's server may be overly fussy; try using other DNS servers
near you (that accept outside queries).

Yum "ImportError" in FC2

Hi,
Whenever I run Yum, I get the following:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/bin/yum", line 22, in ?
import yummain
File "/usr/share/yum/yummain.py", line 31, in ?

import libxml2mod
ImportError: /usr/lib/python2.3/site-packages/libxml2mod.so: undefined
symbol: xmlXIncludeProcessFlags
I also get the ImportError if I try to import libxml2 from the python
console.
I've tried using rpm to uninstall and re-install the libxml2,
libxml2-python, and yum rpms which I downloaded from my nearest fedora
core 2 mirror, but still the same problem. rpm -q shows my libxml2 &
libxml2-python to be versions as follows: libxml2-2.6.8-1
libxml2-python-2.6.8-1.
It's possible that some manual flailing around with downloaded install
scripts I did very late last night overwrote the libraries from the
rpm's, but in that case wouldn't the libxml2 rpm un/re-installs have
fixed the problem? Any ideas on how to go diagnosing from here?
Cheers,
CB.

Need help with a DNS problem
by Allen Winter
Hi,
A few months ago I posted the enclosed message and was given the fix to turn off ipv6 support,
which has worked fine for me ever since (i.e, add the line 'install ipv6 /bin/true' to /etc/modprobe.conf)
Recently the DNS problems I described have come back... I did upgrade a new kernel using yum.
I still see the ipv6 line in my /etc/modprobe.conf file so I am at a loss. Any ideas as to what may
be causing resolver "dropouts"??

Howdy,
I am having a strange issue on my new Fedora Core 2 install with DNS.
I have three systems connected to ADSL via a Netgear WGR214v2 Router,
with one running Redhat 9, one running FC1, and the other my new FC2 system.
The Redhat system is running dhcpcd and has no problem getting addresses.
The FC1 system is running dhclient and had no problem getting addresses.
The new FC2 system is also running dhclient and fails to get addresses for only
a *few* names I've encountered so far. And dig will give me an answer for those
names, but nslookup will fail. I have looked up everything I know and compared
the FC1 and FC2 systems and they look to be configured the same.
For example,
% dig myfidelity.members.fidelity.com
; <<>> DiG 9.2.3 <<>> myfidelity.members.fidelity.com

Oh, and I forgot to mention that every now and then nslookup will return an address for myfidelity.members.fidelity.com,
but that is not the typical case.
Any ideas?

Old Crystal Sound with FC2?
by Peter Hutnick
I have a ThinkPad 600, with some old Crystal sound. FC1's version of
sndconfig picked it up just fine. system-config-sound reports no
soundcards detected. I installed the old FC1 sndconfig rpm, but the
driver model seems to have changed ;-)
Any hints?

general note: list mail and reply addresses
by Alexander Dalloz
Hello all!
Since a few days I see more and more mails here on this list where the
reply-to address is changed to not have the list address. This is really
very uncomfortable to handle.
There are too a lot of posters with reply-to address set to both the
sender's address as well the mailing list address. This is because those
senders did set a reply-to address explicitly in their mail client. This
is not necessary in general (setting the reply to address), only if the
sender address and the reply-to address do differ. I doubt all these
posters with that set want to receive the mail 2 times, both with
personal address as well through list subscription.
Speaking for me, I want to get the mails just one time, through the
list. So settings like

is nothing I prefer. Of course, if someone likes to send me a personal

or personal intended.
Time to check the mail client settings? :)
