RE: MORE SSH Hacking: heads-up
by Jenkins, Jeremiah
What does your /etc/secure log say?
There are some scripts around the internet now, where they try to log in via
ssh using "test" and guest with sometimes an admin account

FC2: Server installation with non-working SSHD and missing /etc/dhcpd.conf
by Philipp Ott
Oie!
Yesternight I installed FC2 on an old P3 196MB with the Server-Setup - I
want masqerading networking, squid, dhcpd and sendmail. I added the
sendmail, squi and dhcp server from the software selection. I have an
internal interface eth0 for my LAN and an external interface eth1 which
dhcps the IP address from the cable provider. Basic networking works and
up2date ran fine updating the packages. The kernel is up to date.
However: I want to setup dhcp server on eth0 but /etc/dhcpd.conf is
missing - or is this by design not there? rpm shows dhcpd is installed.
Second: I cant ssh into the box, not even ssh localhost. It says
authentication failed and there is no password query. In
/var/log/message I find messages that Port 22 on 0.0.0.0 is already in
use and sshd fails to bind there. I installed RH9 and FC1 a few times
now but always either "Full" or "Workstation" plus few packages and
never had a problem with the out-of-the-box ssh Installation. I changed
options in /etc/ssh/sshd_config and ssh_config (removing Protocol 1
support) and such but still cant ssh into the box. I disabled/unloaded
iptables and still no success. SSH user(a)somewhere.else works, I can get
"away" from the PC but no onto it.
Was choosing "Server" a bad idea and do I have to add some more rpms?
Did somebody stumble accross similar problems?

Philipp Ott

installing new Ati Radeon 7000 w? fc2
by H. Dox
I currently have a nvidia TNT2 video card installed on my system
(using just the nv driver) but I'm planning to replace it with a Ati
Radeon 7000. I am running Fedora Core 2. Will the new card be
automatically detected? Should I make any changes to xorg.conf
*before* installing the new card? Is there anything else I should be
aware of before making this change?
Thanks!

Gnome Icons/mimetypes Go Bye Bye
by Andrew Choens
I've just installed FCII. I'm coming over from SUSE to see what FC has
been up to. Right now I've just got one little gripe, and I'm sure it
can be easily corrected once I know where to go.
I've got my directories all set up with the spatial nautilus and was
actually quite pleased, and then I noticed that the icon for the start
here desktop icon was missing. Then, I noticed that nautilus no longer
recognizes such unusual filetypes such as rpm or .tgz. I tried to tell
it, and it told me there was already a mime-type, did I want to
overwrite? I said yes, and then tried to install an rpm, and nautilus
then informed me that there was no set mime-type.
My question is this. Where does GNOME keep all of it's mime-type /
application icon information? I want to delete this file and see if
GNOME can recover or copy these files from my root directory since it
seems to be just fine. I just don't know what files to look at since
I'm used to using KDE.
I tried some things like .nautilus, and a few things under .gnome2.
When I searched the archives I found nothing about randomly disapearing
icons/mimetypes.
Thanks

Email stopped?
by Robert Locke
I seem to have stopped receiving email from this particular list around
7 or so hours ago though other lists are continuing to fill my Inbox.
Please consider this a test to see if I receive my own email (I did
check the archives and notice some messages in the last 7+ hours that I
have not received), presuming it will bounce this if fedora-list has
somehow lost my subscription.... Or if someone has other thoughts, feel
free to email me direct....

broadcom 5700 driver
by Sameer Kamat
Hi,
Has anyone been successful in loading the bcm5700-7.1.9e.src.rpm
driver with
the Fedora core 1 kernel (2.4.22-1.2115.npt1 kernel). The tg3 drivers are
old and
broadcom seems to have bcm5700.o as their current module.
I get unresolved symbols when I try to insmod the driver. Does
anyone have any
thoughts on the Broadcom drivers ?
Thanks,
Sameer
