Dell Ultra Sharp 2001FP Flat Panel
by Usman S. Ansari
I have Fedora Core 2 running fine until my monitor died. I decided to
by "Dell Ultra Sharp 2001FP Flat Panel" on recommendation of my
friend.
When booting, I was hoping that kudzu will kick in and reconfigure for
new monitor. It did not.
When I start X on the computer, I get following message from the
monitor
"1:D-SUB cannot display this mode"
How can I configure it ?
I try to start "system-config-display", but get same message above.
I connected this monitor to another (old) computer and started install
process and it did reconize it as
"2001FP (analog)"
So FC 2 does know how to talk (install fails due to disk space
problem).
Any suggestions, how can I configure this monitor for my main PC.

Errormsg symbol __libc_wait, version GLIBC2.0
by A.J. Bonnema
Can anyone help me solve the following error?
{I run FC2 completely up2date, untainted kernel}
My problem is, I want to install TogetherControlCenter 6.1 from Borland
and I keep getting errormessages, so it never gets installed. The
initial problem was an error message indicating that libjvm.so could not
be found.
Using google I found indications that Linux for some reason does not
search upper level directories when looking for shared libraries and
that this can be remedied by defining LD_LIBRARY_PATH.
However, the java jre-environment Borland creates is in a /tmp directory
with a variable name, so I had LD_LIBRARY_PATH point to my own jdk
lib-directory that contains libjvm.so. So I inserted:
LD_LIBRARY_PATH="/usr/java/j2sdk1.5.0/jre/lib/i386/client:/usr/java/j2sdk1.5.0/jre/lib/i386";export
LD_LIBRARY_PATH
and executed the binary from the cd. However, now the error msg is:
"
Error occurred during initialization of VM
Unable to load native library:
/tmp/install.dir.14985/Linux/resource/jre/jre/lib/i386/libjava.so:
symbol __libc_wait, version GLIBC_2.0 not defined in file libc.so.6 with
link time reference
"
So probably I need glibc2.0? Is this the right conclusion?
Can I install glibc2.0 besides the default FC2-glibc (2.3)?
Can anyone help me here?
(I include the complete error message at the bottom.)
Guus.

Adding ethernet card to modprobe.conf
by Stephen More
The install of FC2 went ok, except for 1 thing...It did not recognize
my ethernet card.
insmod 3c509 worked so I added and entry to /etc/modules.conf
alias eth0 3c509
rebooted and nothing happened.
I read that modules.conf is for kernel 2.4 and I need to make an entry
in modprobe.conf so I did:
alias eth0 3c509
I rebooted again and nothing happened.
What is the right way to add support for this network card ?

Multisync connects, doesn't sync
by B.J. McClure
I am trying to keep Evolution 1.4.6 Contacts and Calender synchronized
on two FC2 boxes running kernel*.521. Ultimately want to bring the
other two FC2 boxes into sync as well.
I installed multisync-0.82-2.i386.rpm, multisync-syncml-0.82.2.i386.rpm
and multisync-evolution-0.82-fc2.1.i386.rpm on both boxes. The reason
for the mixed versions (0.82-2 and 0.82-fc2) was that I could not find
the necessary libraries to use the 0.82-2 version of
multisync-evolution. I really didn't expect it to play but thought it
worth a try.
The client connects to the server but no sync takes place. Both logs,
client and server show the connection "repeated twice".
After fiddling with various settings I decided to remove all rpms and
install all fc2 version. When I do rpm -e as root I get the following:
[root@homeoffice bmcclure]# rpm -e multisync-0.82-2.i386.rpm
error: package multisync-0.82-2.i386.rpm is not installed
I get the same error if I cd to /usr/local/bin (where the executable is
installed) and run rpm -e.
The package is obviously installed. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance.

RE: SCSI problems.. [Some thoughts about yum and repositories]
by Bill Cronk
I hace successfully worked with RH7.3, RH8, RH9, FC1, FC2, and now
FC3rc3 on both U160 and U320 SCSI drives without any issues.
This includes boot drives, tape drives, external CDROM, and SCSI RAID
boxes on all versions.

What sort of keyboard? (PS/2, AT, USB)
Is it wireless?
Is there any sort of KVM (keyboard, mouse, video) switch in use?

The keyboard is a standard PS2 key board, no KVM.
Mouse is a logitech USB wheel mouse.
An additional point is that at first the problem occurred every few days and has now
increased to multi times per day. I have rebooted to Win XP and will see if it happens there.
Any logs I should reveiw for error messages that may help?
