Problem with ac-97 sound card.
by Thomas Ward
Hello, list.
I have recently installed Fedora Core 2, and am having a rather serious
issue with my sound card. My sound card is a Intel AC-97 sound card, and I
believe the module it requires is the snd-intel8x0 alsa module.
In the past this sound worked fine with older versions of Red Hat like Red
Hat 9 and alsa, but when upgrading to Fedora Core 2 I'm getting absolutely
no sound at all out of this sound card.
When I did the Fedora setup and it tried to test my sound card it said the
test failed, and it could not find a compatible sound device and went on
it's way. Now, I know from using RH 9 with alsa drivers this card has been
known to work well with Linux using alsa.
Is there any major changes with alsa that breaks compatibility with these
AC-97 sound cards? Where do I go now to try and solve the issue with it. I
have very bad vision so I need the assistance of apps like gnopernicus to
really get work done in Fedora so a sound card is esentual for me.
I'm probably going to grab the kudzu and updated kernel packages, and if
that doesn work what should I do then? Should I just bite the bullet and
download Fedora Core 3 and do a complete install from scratch hoping the
newer version will fix my issues, or does anyone else have a better
solution?
Thanks.

Yes. lots of potential for that to become the firefox of html editors.
http://www.nvu.com/mailinglist.html
You can start using nvu by the side while continuing with dreamweaver
and report whatever features are missing to the mailing list above. a
single mail detailing everything would probably be useful to the
developers working on it

dvd+rw blanking
by david walcroft
Hi,
I use a pioneer DVR 108 dvd burner (dual layer) and I can not blank a
+rw with
xcdroast or cdrecord,as root I get in FC3 xcdroast
"cdrecord.prodvd: Cannot blank with non Ricoh based drive.
cdrecord.prodvd: Cannot blank disk, aborting.
cdrecord.prodvd: Some drives do not support all blank types.
cdrecord.prodvd: Try again with cdrecord blank=all"
In # 'cdrecord blank=all' I get
sg.c 1.83 04/05/20 Copyright 1997 J. Schilling').

Device seems to be: Generic mmc2 DVD-R/DVD-RW.
cdrecord: Found DVD media: using cdr_mdvd.

cdrecord: OPC failed.

Looking at that its saying the drive is only a dvd-rw when it is a +rw
having burnt
a FC3-t3 Iso to a +rw.

-----------------------------------------
Looks like this problem is with every rsync mirror in North America that has the i386 dvd iso file. I dont know about other servers though.
Why is this happening and how do I correct it?
Is all my download wasted?
Anyone else run into same problem?
I rsync'ed FC3 CD ISO files with no problems.
I have entered a bug : http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla...g.cgi?id=139474. but I am hoping someone will provide a solution sooner on this mailing list so I can resume and complete my dvd download
Thanks for your response,
Prem

download latest nVidia driver http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux.html
no longer required kernel source to compil latest nVidia driver
edit /etc/inittab
id:5:initdefault:
change
id:3:initdefault:
log in as root
bash NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-6629-pkg1.run
edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf
comment out Load dri and Driver "nv"
# Load "dri"

directly under #Driver "nv"
add this Driver nvidia
modprobe nvidia to produce device files in /dev
cp -a /dev/nvidia* /etc/udev/devices
chown root.root /etc/udev/devices/nvidia*
change id:3:initdefault: in /etc/inittab
to id:5:initdefault:
shutdown hang
solution: append acpi=off to /etc/grub.conf
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.9-1.667 ro root=LABEL=/ rhgb quiet acpi=off
change domain name
