Plan for tomorrows (20071025) FESCO meeting
by Brian Pepple
Hi,
Please find below the list of topics that are likely to come up in the
next FESCo meeting that is scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday at 17:00 UTC
in #fedora-meeting on irc.freenode.org:
/topic FESCo meeting -- Free discussion around Fedora
There's nothing on the schedule for tomorrow so if you want something
to be discussed, send a note to the list in reply to this mail and I'll
add it to the schedule. You can also propose topics in the meeting
while it is in the "Free discussion around Fedora" phase.
If your name/nick is on above list please update the status on the
Extras schedule pages in the wiki ahead of the meeting. That way all the
other FESCo members and interested contributors know what up ahead of
the meeting. And we will avoid long delays in the meeting -- those often
arise if someone describes the recent happenings on a topic directly in
the meeting while all the others have to wait for his slow typing...
Thanks,
/B

firefox-2.0.0.8 Upgrade Problems in F7
by Richi Plana
Hi,
It looks like firefox-2.0.0.8 finally made it to F7 updates.
Unfortunately, this breaks a couple of dependencies (for me, Miro,
gnome-gtk2-gtkmozembed, yelp and devhelp).
I understand that Miro is still heavily under development and might need
to hard-require a specific version of firefox (2.0.0.5).
gnome-gtk2-gtkmozembed might also be just as sensitive to changes. My
question, though, is what functionalities are in place to catch
dependency breakages when packages are uploaded to the repository? Does
the system inform the breaking package maintainer that his check-in will
break other packages? Does it inform the broken package maintainers that
they need to update their packages? Is there an easy way to allow
multiple installations to support both versions? Most importantly, is
there a way that such check-ins can be postponed in a containment unit
pending check-ins of packages which resolve the breakage in that
specific repository (by this, I mean fedora-updates, but do third-party
repos have a system for resolving their own problems)?

Development to Official
by Mike Chambers
Don't know if I worded the subject correctly, but wanted to know when
will rawhide not be geared towards F8 any longer and start towards F9
development? I know the freeze is on, but wanted to find out when even
bugs and such would stop.
Guess I am asking to know when to stop playing with beta and gear
towards final/official updates for a while until am ready to begin F9
testing (In other words, time to change repo files to official
update/testing, instead of rawhide).
<Note> I thought I sent this last night, but didn't see it in the
archives, although in my sent folder. So I apologize if I sent it
twice.

F8 blocker bug status report - testers needed!
by Will Woods
Hi folks,
The QA team went through the F8Blocker bug list today. The good news is
that a lot of the things that would have blocked the release are fixed -
we're down under 20 blocker bugs (not including trackers).
The current blocker list can be found here:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/showdependencytree.cgi?id=235703&hide_resolved=1
We need help testing and evaluating some of these bugs - some of them
only affect certain hardware or less-common software configurations. We
need to know how widespread the problems are in order to decide whether
a given problem is actually worth delaying the release to fix.
Please look through this list and see if there's anything you could help
to test.
In order by bug ID, here's a look at our current blocker bugs, with
commentary:
* Bug 208607: ASSIGNED - kernel-maint(a)redhat.com
- mkinitrd: iSCSI root requires crc32c module
iSCSI is a tricky beast. This didn't work right in F7 either, so it's
not a new problem, just something we were planning to have fixed
properly for F8. Instead we will probably end up building crc32c into
the kernel so that iSCSI-root works properly.
If you've got iSCSI hardware, it would be excellent if you could help us
test installation (after we get this change in..). Adding yourself to
the CC list for the bug would be a great idea.
* Bug 242536: ASSIGNED - alan(a)redhat.com
- [pata_via] Anaconda failed after formatting the / partition
* Bug 242766: ASSIGNED - alan(a)redhat.com
- [pata_via via82c596a] hard drive not found during install attempt
If anyone has pata_via hardware, please speak up! We need to know how
much impact these bugs will have, testing help, etc.
* Bug 253892: ASSIGNED - vcrhonek(a)redhat.com
- There is no usable romanian keymap for the linux console
An earlier fix didn't work. It's unclear whether this actually prevents
Romanian users from using their systems (which would make it a blocker)
but the fix should be simple, so it stays for now.
* Bug 264901: NEW - notting(a)redhat.com
- oops, we have multiple sources of persistent network names active at
the same time
notting says that this is (more or less) fixed for things in the default
install. We're trying to work out ways to test it. This may get dropped
from the blocker list and fully fixed in F9-rawhide.
* Bug 311511: NEEDINFO - dcbw(a)redhat.com
- x86_64 iwl3945 NM crash after Keyring loop Deny
A fix for this has been committed, we're waiting for the reporter to
confirm. If you can confirm this fix, that would help.
* Bug 323371: ASSIGNED - dcbw(a)redhat.com
- NM 0.7 doesn't support WPA/WPA2 Enterprise (certificate-based
authentication)
This is also fixed, in theory, but the original reporter is having
problems beyond WPA/WPA2 Enterprise. If you can confirm WPA or WPA2
Enterprise is working with current NetworkManager
(NetworkManager-0.7.0-0.3.svn3016.fc8, in koji or tomorrow's rawhide)
please comment on the bug.
* Bug 330931: NEEDINFO - katzj(a)redhat.com
- liveinst fails - sg devices confuse anaconda?
This involves some interesting hardware - Dell PowerEdge 2650 - so if
you have some of this hardware and can help test / debug, please grab a
copy of the LiveCD and give it a shot.
* Bug 335161: MODIFIED - triad(a)df.lth.se
- multilib file conflicts in gnokii
A fix for this has been committed and should show up in rawhide
tomorrow.
* Bug 338551: NEW - davej(a)redhat.com
- kernel 2.6.23.1-23.fc8 does not boot anymore on SK8V
Again, this is a bug with specific hardware - if you have an SK8V
motherboard, we could use testing help.
* Bug 345841: MODIFIED - dwalsh(a)redhat.com
- SELinux denial from cron
This should be fixed in today's rawhide, hopefully the reporter will
retest and close the bug (COUGH COUGH JESSE COUGH SLACKER COUGH)
* Bug 346471: NEW - lvm-team(a)redhat.com
- F8T3 Live CD detects LVM groups inside RAID1, without using RAID1
This one is kind of nasty - LVM startup problems on the LiveCD can cause
it to mess around with one mirror of a RAID1 set, which could lead to
desynched mirrors and other badness. It's being investigated.
* Bug 348931: MODIFIED - ehabkost(a)redhat.com
- virt-install --nographics --paravirt is broken
There's a fix for this in the kernel-xen-2.6 package in today's rawhide.
If you're a xen user, testing and commenting on this bug would be much
appreciated.
A few more bugs have been added since the QA meeting - I'll comment
about them in a status report later this week.
Thanks for any help, and keep on testin', rawhiders!

Request permission to break always use system libs rule for asc-2.0
by Hans de Goede
Hi All,
I'm currently working on upgrading asc (Advanced Strategic Command) to 2.0.1.0
When packaging asc-1.16.4.0, I also packaged SDLmm-0.1.8 and paragui-1.0.4.
While packaging SDLmm I had to backport several fixes from a copy included in
asc to the package, as SDLmm is very much dead upstream.
With 1.16.4.0, paragui was not included so the packaging of it was needed, and
I packaged the then already old version 1.0.4, as that is what asc 1.16.4.0 wanted.
Now with asc-2.0 there are yet again bugfixes to the included SDLmm-0.1.8, now
I can port these to the external SDLmm package, and patch asc to use the
external SDLmm. But since SDLmm upstream has been dead for a long time, and asc
is the only user of SDLmm, this feels rather silly. So I would like to declare
SDLmm dead for current devel (F-9 and later) and just use the included copy.
asc-2.0 now uses paragui-1.1.8, which is the latest release from 2004 (again
very dead upstream, website is down, etc.) and again has it heavily patched.
Unfortunately some idiot ran indent on there copy, so doing a diff results in
30000 changed lines. I could go through these manually and port any fixes to
the official paragui, and patch asc to use the system version. But again asc is
the only user, so doing this feels really silly (going through a 30000 lines
diff is no fun). So I would like to declare paragui dead for current devel (F-9
and later) also, and just use the included copy.
Are there any objections against this?
Regards,
Hans
