kernel-2.6.23: USB key protection problem
by Dario Lesca
Hi, I have Found this issue on:
o f7 + kernel-2.6.23 (last from development)
o f8t3 + up to date (then kernel-2.6.23)
In this 2 Scenarios My USB KEY for software protection not work.
On f7 + standard kernel my key work ok (see strace 1), if I install last
kernel from updates (or I use f8t3) my key not work (see strace-2)
Someone can suggest me some work around ... or this is a issue of new
version of kernel?
Many thanks.

Would it not be simpler to hardcode the version dependency as part o
fthe BuildRequires instead of having to manually track that?
Thanks.

multlib and splitting packages
by Bill Nottingham
Just to note, if you fix multiarch conflicts by moving libraries to
a -libs package, your new -libs package should obsolete the older
versions of the package where the libraries came from. This is so
that yum upgrades work properly.
For example, if you previously had:
foo-1.1-1.i386
foo-1.1-1.x86_64
that had libraries, and had other file conflicts, and you split them
into:
foo-1.1-2.x86_64
foo-libs-1.1-2.i386
foo-libs-1.1-2.x86_64
you should add:
Obsoletes: foo < 1.1-2
in the %package section for foo-libs.

BIG FAT WARNING: Breaking X in rawhide
by Adam Jackson
Hopefully I have your attention.
We're working on a lot of stuff that's going into upstream X really
soon. It's going to be quite disruptive, many drivers will fail to
launch, etc. Good stuff, but disruptive.
I want to rebase rawhide to git xserver really soon, before November if
possible but definitely before December. I'll work to make sure most
people can get _some_ X when that happens, but it's definitely going to
hurt for about a month.
I want to make sure everyone knows this is coming, and if anyone has
suggestions for how to time this best and communicate all the caveats
and workarounds, please, speak up now.

Multiarch crazyiness
by Ian Chapman
If yum/rpm is patched so that when arch conflicts occur in %{_bindir}
for example, it chooses the preferred architecture, ie 64bit over 32bit
for X86 and 32bit over 64bit for PPC, is there a technical reason why
this cannot be applied to anything under %doc?

Koji issues
by Mike McGrath
We've had a couple of issues with the koji master today OOMing. We were
planning on building a newer and better koji master (one thats
clustered) but now is not a good time in the release cycle to do it.
Needless to say if we continue to have these issues we may just have to
migrate now. Stop by #fedora-admin if you have any questions,
unfortunately I don't know any more at this time. We're keeping an eye
on it.

Announcing rpmfusion
by Hans de Goede
The Dribble, Freshrpms and Livna teams, already joined by some Fedora
contributors, are proud to announce the RPM Fusion project.
RPM Fusion aims to bring together many packagers from various 3rd party repos
and build a single add-on repository for Fedora and Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
We don't have a repository ready for end users yet, but we are actively working
on merging the following ones:
* http://dribble.org.uk/
* http://freshrpms.net/
* http://rpm.livna.org/
We will have two distinct repositories: free and non-free. Free will contain
Open Source Software (as defined by the Fedora Packaging Guidelines) which
can't be included in Fedora -- for example because it might be patent
encumbered in the US. Non-free will contain everything else which is not free
software (as defined by the Fedora Licensing Guidelines), like software with
public available source-code that has "no commercial use" restrictions or the
graphics drivers from AMD and Nvidia.
Repositories and infrastructure will follow Fedora where possible. This means
using Fedora's packaging guidelines (except for legal), Fedora's review process
for new submissions, Fedora's VCS structure etc.
It will contain add-on packages and not replacements in relation to the base
package set. Whereby the base package set is defined as: RHEL/CentOS + EPEL or
Fedora (Fedora 7+).
It will contain kernel module packages in the main repo, even if Fedora will
drop them (which looks likely as of August 2007).
We aim to provide support for all 'current' versions of Fedora including devel,
for i386, ppc, ppc64 and x86_64.
We hope to attract new Fedora packagers and many other 3rd party repositories.

ISO file size in bytes?
by Jerry Williams
Would it be possible to list the iso file size in bytes in the SHA1SUM file?
The reason that I ask it is that I had a DVD with Fedora 7 on it and needed
a copy of the iso file. So I did a dd on the DVD, but the file ended up
being bigger than the original iso file. I had to know the size so I could
enter the number of blocks to copy.
It is much quicker to do an ls -l than it is to run sha1sum on a file.
If the size is right then run the sha1sum.
Or is the size listed on some web page some place?
Everywhere I have looked I end up with an estimate.
Thanks!
