I just had the following firefox crash when dragging a tab, this might
also have to do with the gtk/gnome updates.

Why not /usr/bin64?
by Neal Becker
On multi-arch, e.g. x86_64, we have /usr/lib for 32bit and /usr/lib64 for
64bit. We should have a place for 32bit and 64bit bins. To be consistent,
64bit would go in /usr/bin64. This would cause massive problems for all
the apps that expect to look in /usr/bin. Here are 2 proposals:
1) 32bit in /usr/bin32, 64bit in /usr/bin64, and /usr/bin->/usr/bin64
2) 32bit in /usrbin32, 64bit in /usr/bin

Feature request - Remove apps from inside gnome menu.
by Naoki
I was thinking, "Gee, wouldn't it be neato if I could right-click an
application in my gnome menu and pick Remove", which presumably could
spawn off the package manager with the related RPM already selected..
I have no idea where a feature request like that should go (gnome?
Fedora?).
But before I look any further, is that a crazy idea or would anybody
else like it? I figure newbies aren't going to know that menu item X
relates to package name "Y".

I perfectly agree with all the concerns inside your post, Jeff.
And the same I think all the other subscribers.
Probably we bring together many (Red) Hats on our head: developers,
testers and also final users hats, and it is not so simple to strictly
separate them in our spirit...
As user I think that new versions of a product, while in testing/developing,
should primarily crash or misbehave when new/exciting/revolutionary
things are involved not
the basics and fundamentals.
So, for example one doesn't expect that only navigating through a file
system causes so many and persistent problems. The same is for other
aspects we are seeing in gnome in rawhide these days.
Probably it could also help if someone could show (I don't know if it
is so simple or posted yet) any links/wikys that explain the
advantages the new core (2.14) will give versus the old one (2.12) and
how the core functionalities are involved, due to these improvements.
Only my 0.2 euros and thanks for all your work.

evalution of linux peercast tools
by Rudolf Kastl
Hello to you!
I am just working through a topic interesting for people trying to setup
their own information media.
For netradio/nettv the only solution for mere humans seem to be peercasting
tools. Some interesting information i found about the topic is collected at
the following wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peercast
Actually i think that evaluating those and getting one packaged and ready
(the best one?) would be quite nice.
What do you think? ;)

Confused fedora user confesses "jpg's make my system crash"
by Chris Chabot
Hi i'm Chris .. and i'm a fedora user ..
My problem ? Any time i even try to look at a jpg, whatever the content
it may be, however innocent! It makes my gnome stick its feet in the air
and play dead while letting out a deathrattle thats ... well ...
disconcerning.
First i found a nice little picture to use as a background, for example
(because its so soothing, which is something i need right now) lets
take:
http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/teams/art.gnome.org/backgrounds/GNOME-Peyr...
I open it up in my trusty fox-which-is-on-fire and i see a lucious
landscape, soothing and calm, i like it! So spontanious as i am i save
it to disk in my home folder!
My firery-fox is so smart, it opens up nautilus for me, and ... *shiver*
it tells me nautilus crashed the moment it tries to render a thumbnail!
Nautilus is as i write this in a never ending loop of crashing,
restarting, opening a root folder window, and crashing, repeat
ad-infintum.
So not being fooled so easely as any old user, i think to my self "i
will install all the relavant -debuginfo packages!" And did a rpm -qf on
all of /usr/lib/*.so.*, cat /dev/null > .recently-used, removed
everything from ~/.thumbnails and made sure yum thought i was fully
upgraded and went on to find a simple testcase.
Easiest way to 'crash and burn' is to simply
# eog GNOME-Peyrouse_1280x1024.jpg
And it tells me in a frightning voice:
# eog GNOME-Peyrouse_1280x1024.jpg
