rawhide stability
by Erwin Rol
Shouldn't rawhide become more stable over time ? I mean it is falling
apart at the moment.
- SELinux doesn't work cause it doesn't allow programs to use sendto
(hence RPC/NFS is gone)
- audio mixer is death
- evolution crashes and has missing icons
- gnomepanel crashes randomly
- teminal font doesn't work for ncursus
And i am sure there are other new problems, that got in after Test2, it
seems after every test release there is added a bunch of unstable
software, no wonder it is never going to be ready on time :-/
Before somebody points out that rawhide is a "play ground", I know, but
at the moment I am just a bit frustrated with it because for me less and
less things work with rawhide :-/

You are lucky!
I opened 177985 for inability to open audio cds: can you?
It seems CD playing is not yet fixed upstream in the gstreamer 0.10 branch.

Can you be more precise? Suppose I only have fc5 packages installed,
which kind of plugin do I need to install if I want to dig with totem
experience?
Do you mean gstreamer-ffmpeg? In that case where can I download binary
rpm for fc5 or source-rpm to build myself?

Theme directory 16x16/status16x16/stock/chart of theme gnome has no size field
by Richard Hughes
Getting the following error with todays rawhide:
Theme directory 16x16/status16x16/stock/chart of theme gnome has no size field
from applcations such as gnome-power-preferences, gedit, devhelp, and
pretty much every gnome application.
This cause problems where the application loads in a custom icon, for
which I noticed on g-p-p.
Anyone else seen this issue, and is it worth bugzillaing -- or is it a
known issue today.
Thanks, Richard.

Re: RFE: Retire Fedora Core 4 only _after_ FC6 has been released.

They had the choice when FC4 came out, or to wait for a while to look how
it turned out, try it on a few systems, and then take the plunge. Or they
could upgrade now. In any case, this was announced long before, it's not
that they have been caught unaware. And the concern about thinly spread
manpower has merit (and has nothing to do with RHEL, it would be exactly
the same if Fedora stood alone): Juggling FC3 + FC4 + last /hard/ push to
get FC5 out the door without showstopper bugs /is/ a lot of work. Sure, it
might not translate into many new RPMs for FC3, but it means people looking
over bug reports, wondering if some new bug reports could be relevant
(security-wise) for FC3, etc anyway.
Also, nudging the users forward is part ot the plan, I guess... it's not
that you would have to keep RH 7.3 because upgrading is too expensive.

Will gnome-mount read /usr/share/hal/fdi/ policy files?
by Yuan Yijun
Hi, all
Previously we use hal policy to set -o utf8 for vfat filesystem on
block devices. It works well and fstab-sync can read it and set fstab
accordingly. I wonder if gnome-mount will do this. Could anyone please
kindly confirm it? Thanks!

I don't have, nor will I ever have, a palm pilot. Do we need to have

FC5t2 upgrade really slow/memory hungry?
by Han-Wen Nienhuys
Hi,
I understand that package updater has been changed, but I'm not
impressed by its memory use.
I'm upgrading a P3 700 laptop with 256 mb ram, and each CD that I pop
in opens another "preparing to install" window, which sits there
forever. Anaconda is at 140mb memory usage, but only 8% CPU; it looks
as if it's swapping a lot.
The last estimate of time required was 10 hours to get it
upgraded, where I'm used to 1 to 3 hours.
Is this normal?
