Plan for the Holidays
by Jesse Keating
With the holidays upcoming, I plan to get the devel tree as broken-dep
free as possible. This includes the foo-kernel packages. I'll be
trying to keep those in sync with the new kernels that are pushed into
rawhide. A lot of folks will have time off over the next couple weeks
and if they choose to test stuff I'd like it to be as easy as possible.
That said, I think it would be good for developers to post what
specifically they think should be tested during this time. What
components do we need some extra eyes on as we approach test2 freeze?
Off the top of my head, we need the java stack tested, and that is a
pretty big thing. Also the functionality of your favorite apps is a
good thing to target, given that everything has been rebuilt with the
new gcc.
So Developers? What would you like the masses to test?

Using ns_parseerr() on Fedora Devel
by Ralf Ertzinger
Hi.
I am currently trying to rebuild a recent version of fwbuilder for
Fedora Extras and I have hit a wall.
The wall is named ns_parserr() and it comes from libresolve, which
exists in a static and a dynamic form in /usr/lib. Both seem to be
unusable for this function.
ns_parserr is replaced by __ns_parserr by the preprocessor. The
latter symbol is not present in -lresolv. It is provided, though,
by libresolv.a, which fwbuilder thus chooses to link against. This
introduces a GLIBC_PRIVATE symbol into the binary (__res_iclose)
which RPM does not like at all.
So what am I supposed to do against this? Should ns_parserr not be
used? Is there a bug in glibc?

kernel-2.6.14-1.1653_FC4.netdev.6?
by Nathan Grennan
I am interested in moving to kernel-2.6.14-1.1653_FC4, and I am
curious when kernel-2.6.14-1.1653_FC4.netdev.6 will be out.
On a side note I seem to have found another bug in sky2. I have no
error messages or signs of why, but I found I could no longer ping other
computers on the network via that interface. I also tested it, and they
couldn't ping it. I first noticed the problem when trying to go to a web
server on another machine via that interface and it couldn't connect. I
checked the link status with ethtool and mii-tool. Both reported the
link was good. I also tried resetting the switch, but no results.
Finally I rebooted the computer and it worked again. It so far hasn't
failed again. Any suggestions of what I can do next time to get some
useful debugging information that might help track down the problem?

scim-libs not signed error when using yum??
by Gianluca Cecchi
Hello,
with fc5 devel installed, after syncronizing with
ftp.mirror.ac.uk::fedora.redhat.com/development/i386/
and trying to do
yum localupdate *rpm
under Fedora/RPMS directory, I get
[snip]
Installing for dependencies:
xscreensaver-extras i386 1:4.22-21.2 development 2.9 M
Transaction Summary
=============================================================================

Update 16 Package(s)
Remove 2 Package(s)

Downloading Packages:
Package scim-libs-1.4.2-9.i386.rpm is not signed
I tried also rpm --import RPM-GPG-KEY under the root i386 dir,
but nothing changes.
As there are various KEY files, different in size, in this directory, do I
have to import all of them?
These problem was there also yesterday and with "rpm -Fvh *rpm" the
yesterday packages
were upgraded (no new instal needed). With the same method I should install
xscreensaver-extras and eventually dependancies and then run -Fvh for the
rest
I would like to wait, going through yum if possible
Any hints?
yum version is the latest: 2.5.0
Thanks in advance
Gianluca
PS: This environment is under VMware workstation 5.5 so I can trick with
snapshots
or similar if useful.

gnome-terminal weirdness
by Erwin Rol
hey all,
I noticed a weird problem with gnome-terminal, my session has one
terminal open so when i login there is one working terminal. When i now
open a new default terminal from the terminal-window menu there will be
a new working terminal. When i open a new terminal from the
"Applications" menu there will be a new terminal window but all terminal
windows freeze and will not work anymore (also no window updates).
Opening a xterm still works fine.
Is anybody else seeing this problem ?

gnome / xorg / nautilus / cairo / freetype desktop rendering slow
by Marcus Hartig
Hello,
I do not know for which package to write a bug, cause...
I've a very bad and slow desktop rendering speed with the latest GNOME
and nautilus rawhide. Moving a little gnome-terminal window is bumpy,
when I switch to another workspace, the whole gnome desktop gets
freezed, only the background is displayed, no icons and a delay for ca.
3-5 sec comes to the screen, where i cannot do anything with a mouse
click response. I had this in the past only with the firefox pop-ups,
but now with the whole gnome desktop.
This happened with the nv (xorg) and the nVidia GFX driver, with agpgart
or the nvida nvagp, with Fedora rawhide kernel and a vanilla, but *only*
under the gnome desktop. With KDE all is fast and smooth, except firefox
and thunderbird is again slow rendering fonts and bad displayed.
I've tried to turn off sub-pixel-rendering for my Dell notebook with a
Geforce 6800 Go, played with hinting, then with the bytecode-interpreter
enabled, but under gnome all is slow again.
Then I've tried to compare ftbench benchs, no reason found. Then
x11perf, also no really spped diffenrence found. All logs show no errors.
Anybody know, what the reason can be? Is it cairo, the font rendering
from freetype, gtk2 or nautilus? I really do not know, where to go
ahead. :-(
