I always get
"db4 error run database recovery"
this happens in various places.
My first reaction would be to blame the hardware :-). If you are installing from DVD or CD, you should be able to just type "memtest" (or maybe it is "memtest86") at the prompt when you boot from CD and have it run the memory test for you to eliminate (or confirm) one possible hardware problem.
i configured and reconfigured the hardware bios so many times with no avail. this system was running FC5 until i decided to install FC6. I have another system that I can try installation again. I've had FC6 on two laptops and there're just fine without any installation issues.

There seems to be a real fault somwhere. Joachim Frieben wrote this earlier in fedora-devel:
''The "rpm" problems reported in my previous post: https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-devel-list/2006-October/msg00870.html have also been observed by other users and have made their appearance in Red Hat Bugzilla as bug #211917:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=211917 .
System freezes, corrupted rpmdb ... this is a very serious issue which makes "FC6" and current "rawhide" essentially unusable on the affected systems. Any ideas? ''

wow thanks for the eye opener! i thought i searched bugzilla for anaconda and found about 500 bugs last night.
that is sick. they should take the rpm/database component out of the installation business. just write some script and note the packages installed in a flat file then after the system is up, build the complete rpm database? hmm

Anaconda bugs are not related to RPM bugs in most cases. Can you give the link to the query that returned 500 bugs?. The number of total bugs (including unconfirmed ones and those waiting on more user information) and enhancement requests across all releases of Anaconda is currently at 287.
Rahul
sorry I can't give the link. I don't want to pursue that either. The number was what I found using some search criteria that I can't remember now. I accept the 287 number you named. Please don't get offended by this. I will refrain from saying things like this. I hope you guys will continue to help me.
And thanks for all the work to get FC6 out.

So one of my installation attempt was to installing using text mode instead of the GUI and I observed just what they saw in the Redhat bug. My screen would roll up with RED and the rpm errors. Then it got tired of scrolling and reset the video and it would be white text...I think it was beeping too.
The GUI hid all that. The errors showed in install.log.
