I had the same kind of thing with my mother, going to any appointment
took at most of the day. And I don't drive, so it was public transport
or expensive taxis. Then we had governments who decided to remove
services from most hospitals and centralise them in specific ones. But
they can't centralise the patients, too, though they'd probably like
to.
I just had to do this all myself, yesterday. An hour of travelling for
a (painfully early in the day) hospital appointment, because the local
hospital (5 minute drive away) doesn't do those kind of things. On the
bus back I ended up chatting with a Vietnam vet who'd been to a service
for his friend. They get a rougher trot than any other veterans in
this country, even now.
Getting back to zoom, there's probably someone on this list in a
similar timezone to you that you could do some trial runs with. I'm in
Australia, so it doesn't match up well with the US, time-wise, and I've
never used zoom.
