Does dmesg have anything relevant to say?
$ dmesg | egrep -i 'dmg|hfs'
hfs: can't find a HFS filesystem on dev loop0.
hfs: unable to find HFS+ superblock
hfs: unable to find HFS+ superblock
Could this be a corrupted dmg?
