For the last couple of days, on three Fedora 8 machines, "yum
update" invariably gets as far as asking "Is this OK?"; then I tell it
yes, and it starts downloading, mostly if not always with kdepim first.
That reaches 100%, and the errors start, usually beginning with
"Package does not match intended download," followed by a long list of
mirrors with errors number one way or another (lots of 1 and 9), and
ending with several saying "[Errno 9] Requested Range Not Satisfiable,"
and finally one carrying error number 256 : "No more mirrors to try."
I concluded that this amounted to a new sort of dependency
problem. So I tried my usual big hammer, in this case taking the form
"yum remove kdepim," taking note of all it removes along with that.
"Yum update" then completes, as usual in these cases. However,
neither "yum install kdepim" nor anything which tries to add kdepim as a
dependency does either.
Since I run Gnome, and only call an occasional KDE app (usually
Konqueror, and usually for its presentation of man pages); and since
Konqueror still works for me; I conclude that I'm OK enough -- kdepim,
which I have yet to use, can wait.
But, fwiw, it does seem to indicate some problem with kdepim.
