Another thing along that line. My "seeing something" was after my initial
answers in the thread and I came
across it looking into something else. Anyway,
I know that one can use systemctl for this, but I've been a bit lazy since KDE's
system settings displays systemd
units.
In my case, when /aux isn't mounted there is only a aux.automount unit shown and has
a status of waiting.
When /aux is mounted there is both a aux.automount and aux.boot. And, the status of
aux.automount becomes running.
