Hi All,
Two programs that will over write your links with the actual file:
softmaker-freeoffice-2018-2018-982.x86_64 Anything running under wine
By links do you mean URLs, hard links, symlinks, something else? By "over write" do you mean replace? What is the context of this?
poc
"ln -s xxx yyy"
I just tested Wine Staging and they fixed it. Yipee!!
wine-staging64-6.1-1.1.x86_64
And I just got word back that Softmaker 2021 (the paid version) also overwrites links.
Win one, lose one.
Neither of the packages you cite are Fedora supplied packages.
I also seems as if, since you have a very generic ln example, that these foreign packagers overwrite *all* symbolic links no matter where they exist.
Besides, your ln example without any context gives this as the result
[egreshko@meimei ~]$ ln -s xxx yyy [egreshko@meimei ~]$ file yyy yyy: broken symbolic link to xxx
1) who ONLY uses packages from the Fedora repo?
2) man ln -s, --symbolic make symbolic links instead of hard links
$ touch xxx $ ln -s xxx yyy $ ls -al yyy lrwxrwxrwx. 1 todd users 3 Feb 8 12:20 yyy -> xxx
3) Wine use to overwrite but is now fixed. When I originally reported it, they told me there was nothing they could do about it.
Softmaker 2021 and 2018 are now the only two I am having issues with.
I use both SoftMaker Free and LibreOffice do to all the endless, mind numbing, bugs and awkwardness in/of LibreOffice. SoftMaker seems to have some bugs too. And they do not support saving back to ods or opening encrypted odt. I have not test envelopes in SoftMaker yet (LO falls on its a-- with envelopes). And I will go back and forth from SoftMaker and LO when I need to change page orentation back from Landscape to Portrait. LO won't fix user reported bugs unless you pay them, which is the open source model and beyond the capability of most except the most well funded companies.
M$ Office is "rumored" to run in Wine, but that will be a cold day ...
Word Pro does run in wine pretty nicely and is more powerful than LO. Does wonderful envelopes too and has division tabs. Plus it is intuitive.
