man tar
-I, --use-compress-program=COMMAND
Filter data through COMMAND. It must accept the -d option, for
decompression. The argument can contain command line options.
man pigz
-d --decompress --uncompress
Decompress the compressed input.
tar xvf myfile.tgz -I pigz
Easy to test and show that "tar xf xxx.tgz" will also decompress and untar
using standard gzip.
Thank you!
