Yes, you are right, and we are all in agreement.
But, Fernando's original post was about:
# yum install perl-xml-parser
No package perl-xml-parser available.

Error: Nothing to do
a case, where yum *has determined* that there is only *one* package matching
its criteria.
So, why interrupt a flow of execution instead of continuing the usual install
process with final Y/N confirmation request, at which time to append a warning
message about the package name selection similarity ?
