Pulseaudio remains one of the unsatisfactorily resolved issues with
both FC8
and FC9. The server only gets connected as a root user and it refuses
connection with other users. I tried the procedure given at
http://www.pulseaudio.org/wiki/PerfectSetup, but it did not help, no
progress. The HAL deamon which is suppose to configure pulse server at the
startup is not doing it properly. It would be really wonderful if someone
comes up with a working setup, at least for GNOME, KDE audio interface seems
to be complicated by the Phonon, at least for the present.

Probably a permissions issue if it works for root and no one else. My
sound did not work on an F9 fresh install but all I had to do was go
System-->Preferences-->Hardware-->Sound switch to ALSA and all was
well.
