Not even then... You should really only need a new kernel when it
offers better features than the last.
From the perspective of the people making the changes, all of them
are for better features...
Drivers and handlers ought to be
separate than the operating system, they're peripherals.
But that requires an OS that defines a stable interface for the drivers.
I've seen nothing to make me think that that will ever happen in Linux.
