thank you Ed,
$ sane-find-scanner I get :

yes, on my computer it is installed hplip - and I also tried to run
hp-plugin..
I don't remember if I needed hp-setup for the first installation.
I also tried to reinstall xsane but this wasn't enough (the file of setup
remained) .
xsane worked good for much time as till I made samting wrong ... (in the
setup panel (?))

You don't mention what model of HP printer/scanner you have? DeskJet
2510?
And did you previously install it using the hp-setup utility?
I have had several HP printer/scanners. Currently have an OfficeJet Pro
8710. I
think my previous one was a 6500. I had both of them set as wireless and
not USB and
haven't had a problem with either printing or scanning.
If you did use the hp-setup utility, maybe you should consider deleting
the devices
and doing the setup again?
If you think you may have set something in error on the printer maybe you
can reset
to defaults?

Conjecture is just a conclusion based on incomplete information. It isn't
a fact.
