Your VBox VM's, what type of disk image are you using?
There appear to be two kinds:
$ file *
Win-10.vbox: XML 1.0 document, ASCII text
Win-10.vdi: VirtualBox Disk Image, major 1, minor 1 (<<< Oracle VM
VirtualBox Disk Image >>>), 107374182400 bytes
