Tried it.
No go.
Sync seems to only flush out the unwritten metadata inodes, not the data
pages.
Perhaps folklore from old Unix days. On power down admins were told to
"sync ; sync ; sync". Sync was said to flush things already queued and
que things that were "dirty". The second sync flushed them. Third was
to give time for writes to complete.
