Nathan, it is not a broken install (maybe that I have not been very
clear) , but stall happens sometimes (I think that system is not
really stalling but waiting for something to start, I don't know what
is causing the trouble)

No, what I mean is you boot from a live cd/usb OR from a netinstall
medium; In case of the install medium you'll have to hit a
keycombination to reach a terminal.
This keystroke/hotkey/... is ctrl, alt and f2 to 4, I don't remmeber
which of the f-keys it was.
In case of a live cd/usb you just let it start and open a terminal.
Then you mount the root-partition ('/') of your broken install, go to
/var/log/ and take a look at the log-files.
