Deleting the entire .kde directory is a really bad idea! You lose ALL your
customizations and in some cases even things like e-mails (depending on the
version of KMail you first used and on whether you changed the default

Apologies - written in haste, and not what I usually recommend. Rename
~/.kde. That way they get recreated on login, but you can still rescue all
your old files as necessary.
