I have Evolution set to access a gmail account, also using that
authentication scheme. The first time you attempt to access it, or
after some failures, Evolution pops up a mini webbrowser window for you
to authenticate with Google: Some login details, confirmation clicks,
I can't really remember what, it was a long time ago, and may be
different now. It mostly just connects without asking me any questions
every day.
If you have a HTTP proxy anywhere, perhaps that's throwing a spanner in
the works. Look through your email settings, your browser settings,
options for your desktop, your general network settings for the whole
computer.
I suppose we should ask the obvious: Has this worked for you before?
