Imagine my surprise when the espon menu showed me only about 10

Choose 'Printing' from the Desktop->Administration menu. The current
Fedora Core printing administration program generates PPDs for
printers on demand from the foomatic database, so you need to use that
program (system-config-printer) to set up printers from foomatic.
Comment: On this FC2 box, I removed foomatic years ago, reconfigured
and
rebuilt cups to use the gimp-print drivers, and brought my C82's output
up to the equivalent of that of a chemical darkroom, something I also
have no little experience with over the last 60 years. Do I have to
similarly "break" the FC5 install by doing it again just to make it
work, or is this a known issue with a fix readily available?
Depending on how much tweaking you need to do, quite possibly. :-(
Issues like this with the current Fedora Core printing system are
known about, and work is underway to make things better.
