coLinux kernel I'm booting is 2.6.11, and the kernel when I boot
directly into FC5 is 2.6.16.

It sounds like ether the version of udev you have needs a newer
kernel, or the kernel you are using does not support udev. I have
udev working just fine with kernel 2.6.11 on a Mandriva system.
