Fedora provides:
NAME
fpaste - A cli frontend for the
paste.fedoraproject.org pastebin
SYNOPSIS
fpaste [OPTION]... [FILE]...
DESCRIPTION
It is often useful to be able to easily paste
text to the Fedora Pastebin at
http://paste.fedoraproject.org and this simple
utility will do that and return the resulting URL
so that people may examine the output. This can
hopefully help folks who are for some reason stuck
without a graphical interface, working remotely, or
any other reason they may be unable to paste
something into the pastebin using a web browser.
Those pastes expire after 24 hours -- at most. Anyone who
doesn't read the thread within that time won't be able to
see the context. I consider that a strong reason to avoid
it for mailing list posts.
I think trimming what's sent is preferable. To me, one of
the great values of a mailing list is the ability for others
to read and learn from it later. If we treat it as a
transient support tool, we're losing that value.
It's much more fulfilling to contribute to the list when
it's got the possibility to benefit others well after the
initial post. If all we're doing is providing free,
one-time support, it is harder to justify the time (IMHO).
I'm happy if I can help others as I've learned a lot from
folks who know more than I ever will. I would just like the
effort spent here to be of value beyond the immediate
exchange.
