You cannot copy TO a dvd with dd, cp, mv ....etc
because writing to optical media requires specialized SW like
cdrecord.
But, you can certainly copy a DVD to HD by the dd command.

I've done it with cp .
The last time I tried it, it didn't work.
Don't remember why.
