Thanks. But that isn't the issue. The issue is that the
4.15.9-300.fc27.x86_64 files are NOT in /boot directly so they aren't
found by mkconfig. Of course, I could copy them there but that doesn't
seem like it should be necessary.
I see. I misunderstood an earlier post.
Anyway, I've since determined that the directory name
7725dfc225d14958a625ddaaaea5962b is derived from the contents of /etc/machine-id
