Hi Ed ,
output uname -r is 4.11.11-300.fc26.i686.
OK, so you are running a 32-bit OS.
downloading from the system I am installing Dell Inspiron 3721 under Fedora 26 with
the Firefox Browser.
What was the name of the rpm that was downloaded? I am running a 64-bit OS and
the
rpm was skypeforlinux-64.rpm. I would hope that yours would be skypeforlinux-32.rpm
