I have looked until exhausted. This cli boot I have I have group
installed Basic Desktop, Xfce Desktop and startx will not boot anything.
I believed it was a "good ole" systemd thing, but systemctl afaik seems
not to behind this. I know wayland has replaced X but there was X
libraries sill in the distro isn't there? How do I boot a gui? I believe
xfce runs on X. I see no gnome, or even kde.
I am probably behind and I am no developer, so idk what's
up. what
should I do?
I have multiple F36 & F37 installations on various hardware. No Wayland session
has ever been opened on any of them. On the currently booted F36:
# startx /usr/bin/icewm
logged in as root user starts IceWM here, but as normal user if I don't first
chown <normaluser> /usr/bin/Xorg then it fails with
xauth: file /home/<username>/.serverauth.1499 does not exist
/usr/bin/sh: /usr/bin/X: Permission denied
xinit: giving up
xinit: unable to connect to X server: Connection refused
xinit: server error
Even with
# ll /usr/bin/Xorg
-rws--x--x 1 root root 277 Jul 13 07:58 /usr/bin/Xorg
:(
On this particular installation, sddm is installed, but only IceWM and TDE
sessions are installed, and both work from TDM when running.
