What does "grep -rn sidebar-sections /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas" give you?
And "ls -l /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/gschemas.compiled"?
If "gschemas.compiled" isn't in the list from the first command, then
try deleting it and run gthumb again.
