Well, what do you call 'risky' packages? FYI, Sylpheed-Claws is not known to
be unstable, whatever you install it from the FC packages or from the sources.
More about your concern:
- what Fedora Core is yours?
- what did you install actually from claws.sylpheed.org? 'cause the download
pages points to the FC5 extras RPMs as well as to some unofficial ones.
Knowing the extra location and package name would help.
- how did you crash Sylpheed-Claws, just starting it?

IIRC X Windows wouldn't start, which I attributed to installing
sylpheed-claws. Even after using Yum to remove X Windows, then
re-installing, X Windows failed to install via yum. Presumably
Sylpheed-claws worked fine, but some weirdness with X Windows there.
Wheras, using the GUI, it went smoothly. ?
