True, you can tighten it up, I've used to as a dumping ground
when I've
had other problems with disks.
I set up a spare space partition for managing my systems. It's
something that can be left alone during installs/updates, and I don't
have to worry that I might accidentally stuff up system files. The boot
partition is a bit of a critical one.
