My keyboard is QWERTY and "(" is Shift+8 and ")" is Shift+9.
No problem here:
$ qalc
You need the download exchange rates to be able to convert between
different currencies.
You can later get current exchange rates with the "exchange rates" command.
Do you want to fetch exchange rates now from the Internet (default yes)? no
> (1+2)*18
(1 + 2) * 18 = 54
I tested also the GUI (qalculate-gtk) and the keyboard worked there.
PS there is also a qalculate-kde
