These 2 machines are connected in one small Hub. and the IP address are
auto retrieved via DHCP.
I have tried traceroute , there is only one hop to reach each other, for
they are in one hub.

Start investigating the network before the services. Look at your routing
table "netstat -nr" and a traceroute would probably help. Make sure your
subnet mask is correct.
